This is the funniest thing I've seen in a work place. One of the guys in my company left my company last friday and went to work for another company that is 30 miles away. Today he just called his former boss and said he wanted to come back! Since they're lack of ppl there and he's pretty good. So his boss gladly let him come back. He only worked in the new company for 3 days! That's the quickest job jumping I've ever seen.

He was probably a spy and gathered all necessary information in 3 days. The rest is a story made up to make him look like a dumbass to you guys. However, you don't know about the 100K bonus he just made.

a coworker of mine left a cush government job for higher pay. He gave a two weeks notice and called in sick. This was an attempt to try out the new place while keeping his options open. BUt of course its a small world and the higher ups found out his scam that he did not intend to honor his two week notice. He burned some bridges when he left. Anyway, he is in the real world now working 6 days a week and at least 12 hours a day on salary. Its a big important project he is involved in, but I am guessing when he is finished he may experience a layoff.

MOral of the story: leave on good terms.

No. That cant be. He called me a few days ago about purchasing a house down there. He almost signe da contract. So he was obviously planning staying there. I am shocked.

He moved to a new job only 30 miles a way and was already looking to buy a house to accomodate such a short move? :p

Very true. Had my coworker left on bad terms. He wouldn't have had the option of coming back.

Not really. All the boss can do is say no and maybe call him an asshole over the phone. He probably left on good terms and could have stayed at the sh|tty new job if it didn't work.

Actually 40 miles. But that's a long commute from here in the morning. In northern NJ, the traffic is bad.

I left one gov't agency for another, didn't like it there, then came back within a month.

And you couldn't think for one minute that it was part of the ruse?

I'm looking at it from everyone else's point of view... hey there's the guy who thought he was better off leaving us... what a d**che he is for crawling back here.

quickest I've seen was a half day.

Guy came in and we showed him his office...he left at lunch saying he accepted another position.

That guy will never work in this town again. Talk about burning a bridge.

Doesn't have to be a ruse. Sometimes folks just see a good opportunity but really want to stay in their current job. Its a tough decision to be sure.

I've had friends look and get offered elsewhere...talk to boss and say "I've got this really great opportunity to do what I'd like to do"

Boss - "what will it take to get you to stay?"

Here you go into money, workload, upcoming projects, responsibilities, options, etc. And if the deal is sweet enough...you stay.

;)

-ps- don't try this without something lined up. Boss can simply say "alrighty then, pack up your stuff and security will escort you out."
