in ICU, i hope she makes it. i just recieved these images from my uncle, who is in florida, being in the middle of college, i cant go to see them.....

her mother was having some high blood pressure issues and went into labour early, god, i hope she lives

I do, too. What does her neonatal phys. say?

Good luck to your entire family but especially to Jaylen and her parents.

I sincerely hope I don't have to eat my words, but try not to worry too much. They can do amazing things these days with babies born even smaller than that. The important thing is that her lungs/organs have developed enough to allow her to use them on her own (eventually). Have you heard anything regarding that?

sounds like your aunt had eclampsia. this condition subsides with the delivery of the baby.

the infant will have a difficult time with her respiratory function, depending on the length of gestation.

oh beautiful you,

Sadness in passing hearts, rests awhile
you so blissfully nearby sleep.
Reality, if for a moment
pauses, as I watch you,.....oh beautiful you.

The eyes, my heart sometimes blind,
and beauty, as the world I do not see.
In this passing blindness, only truth I see,
that to me you so beautiful be.....oh beautiful you.

My best wishes to Jaylen and her mom. Hope they get better soon.

CD.

he said that she could breath on her own and he sounded very optomistic, but 3.5lbs, is so small.

Dont lose hope yet, Schadenfroh. I've been in a maternity hospital most of my life, and I've seen newborns pull through real bad situations.

It is, but like I said they can do amazing things these days. The hospitals in this area will typically let a baby go home at 4 1/2 lbs, which is pretty small. The baby will likely lose a little weight before it starts gaining it, but that's normal.

Stay optimistic.

medicine has a good handle on premies, and babies themselves are so strong and resiliant...keep up your spirits and keep us updated.

best of wishes!

I had a coworker with a baby born something like 2 1/2 - 3 months premature and a bit lighter than your cousin ( ~3 pounds). It was a little rough on the parents emotionally but from what he told me later, their baby was never in any really dangerous stage. She's a regular, happy, healthy, bouncing kid today. Try not to worry too much and have faith everything will be OK. 🙂

That's not tiny... there have been several babies born at a pound...

There is respiratory development that will need to occur, she'll be on oxygen, but a lot of the growth she would have done in the womb would have been just fattening up. In a hospital she'll probably do fine.

How premature exactly? 2 months, 3?

3.5lbs is pretty good, and a child with at least 5 1/2 months of development may be able to survive outside of the womb. Any time past that just improves chances, since all of the essential development is complete. I think she has a good chance and I hope everything goes well.

My mom was 2lb, 1oz...born in a country "hospital" 60-something years ago. Needless to say, she made it just fine.

Best of luck, you're in my prayers.

I think with 2 months left these days, the child usually can make it through te ordeal.

My wife is due in mid-December and she has stated that a premature birth at this point leaves the child with very good chances of survival. Sounds like the 3.5 pound baby was further along than we are right now so I think your odds are very good!

High blood pressure after pregnancy is actually somewhat common, just takes time to go back down to normal. I know how ya feel man, my baby twin sisters both died premature, so I wish you the best of luck. Hope she makes it.

My nephew was born premature. I'm not positive on his weight, but i know it was less than 3.5lbs. He's a junior in high school this year and doing great. He's in wrestling, and even though he had a little trouble with his lungs and capacity, he is very good at it.

My aunt's been a NICU Respiratory Therapist for 15 years, and she said that most make it when they are >28 weeks, and the youngest she's seen has been 24 weeks. I've visted her a couple times, and it's just amazing how small some of those babies can get. Good luck to your aunt, uncle, and cousin. 🙂
