phuket.. like Sri Lanka, Maldives and India suffered the same direct hit as Indonesia,
so, I'm really sorry to hear that,
hoping for the best for ya

UPDATE: We got word this morning that Aisha has somehow fetched up in eastern Thailand, and she's fine. No details yet on what exactly happened, but thank God she's OK. I'll pray for the 80K+ who weren't as lucky . . .

Good to hear she is doing OK.

One of my best friends is teaching in Indonesia, and he came home a week ago, so he could be with his family for Christmas. He's been relieved that he was home, but is worried about his students.

Glad to know she turned up OK!! As you alluded to, I wish the same could be said for the other countless thousands. 🙁

Excellent news!! Thank god everything turned out of OK for her, I can't imagine the hell your family went through and the joy they now feel knowing everything is ok.

Boy, this REALLY sucks. My wonderful 23-year-old cousin Aisha was on vacation in or near Phuket, Thailand when the tsunami hit. Nobody has heard anything from her since, and it's been 3 days. We are all frantically pinging the State Department and checking the casualty lists from Thailand to no avail. Things are really getting desperate.

Aisha's mother (my aunt) has already had a terrible December - her father had a heart attack, which seems to have revealed some underlying senile dementia/Alzheimer's. The possibility of her daughter being washed out to sea, never to be seen again, is more than she can take, and it will just break her heart.

I'm not much of a religious person, but I am praying for Aisha, and please do the same if you're willing.

Great News

my cousin left for Thailand the day after the tsunami. Here's what she wrote upon arrival:

Greetings from Bangkok!

After roughly 24+ hours in transit, we have arrived in
the amazing city of Bangkok! No tsunamis or
earthquakes to report as of yet although there is
certainly a fair amount of chaos here anyway. We made
it to Th Khoa Sahn Road (infamous I know!) and it is
everything I heard it would be and more. Such a
carnival of the senses! We found this great little
hostel (very rustic of course!) for a whole 10$ a
night... It even comes with A/C!

It is about 85 right now and the night is just
beginning for us!!!! We had a great Thai meal and
bargained for some clothes on the street... I have to
say that I feel completely comfortable traveling here,
the people are great (so far so good!)

Tomorrow we plan to hit up some of the Wats
(temples)which really are on every corner, gold
abundant.

Just wanted everyone to know we are here and safe!
Thanks for all the concern! No Phuket this time... 🙁
but there is plenty to do and seen in other parts of
this amazing country!

Hugs,
<my cousin>

I'm interested in seeing what her experience is like away from the coastline.
