my county's images > Google Maps satellite

I can see the sunroof on my car in the driveway. The Accord sitting out on the street was donated a few months back but wow... I can actually make it out. Google's satellite doesn't get this close.

Where in Nassau?

I used to live in Rocky Point, out in mid-Suffolk.

That's almost certainly not satellite.

It's probably aerial photography. Most counties (at least here in Mississippi) are required by law to update their aerial photography maps every couple years. Having said that, some counties around here are still showing aerial maps from the early 90's.

But does your county do most of the United States? It's like comparing apples and onions. I could take a picture from my roof and say OMGMYSATELLITEOWNZ.

google uses old satellite imagery and pieces them all togethor to form a map. afaik, google doesnt have any satellites in space!

and that is an aerial photograph, not a satellite photograph.

thats probably a pic from a bird...

(as in plane or helo)

Why didn't you just say "That's probably a pic from an aircraft"? You wouldn't have to explain yourself then...

Or is it cool to refer to aircraft as birds? Just wondering.

you're telling me they went up in a plane and took sectional pictures of the entire county ? That's insane.

Obviously when I said "my county's satellite" I didn't mean they put their own satellite into orbit... whatever service they're using, it's better than what Google provides is all I'm saying... here's another of my old house.

Edited title.

And that is precisely what they did.

Not too hard really, just a GPS aware camera pointed straight down & a pattern to fly.

Yep, most of the aerial photographs correspond to the USGS Quadrangle maps, and the 2 pieces of data (photographs + quad maps) can be overlaid on top of each other.

How do you know it wasn't wintertime ? Notice no tree leaves are in the way and I have a huge one right out front and 2 in the back. It looks beautiful out my window right now.

The shadows.
The sun doesn't come out in the winter ? Read my edit above.

My lawn doesn't go like that in winter and we get snow.
You're just a fvcking idiot if that's really your argument. My grass is uniformly green right now. If I were to take a top-down photo of my property, the entire left corner of my property would be blocked by tree leaves. Shut it.
