My Copy of Office 2010 will no longer activate

So, several years ago, I was able to get a copy of Office 2010 for a very nice price, thanks to my employer's involvement in the Microsoft HUP. A few years later, we went to Office 365, and I used my extra licenses to switch to Office 365. I would like to get my 2010 working again, since it should be seen as "mine" with whatever I decide to do in the future, but I am having issues.

I installed the Office apps without issue, but MS won't let it go beyond a trial version. It doesn't say there is anything wrong with my key when manually entered, but when I tell Office to acticate, it gives me the error 0xC004C032. Looking up the error, MS says this means "The activation server reported that new time based activation is not available."

I have tried manual activation with ospp.vbs and tried a fixit tool Microsoft had for a similar issue (involving some registry values).

The only other thing I can think of is that it may have been installed on a computer of mine that was stolen a couple years ago. So if whoever ended up with the computer didn't wipe the drive, this may be what is causing the issue. One of the explanations for this code is "This issue occurs because these trial versions can only be installed on one computer."

What do you guys think? Maybe I can call MS and get them to release it? So much easier with office 365 when I can just log in and see what computers it is installed on.

You can call Microsoft and tell them that you no longer have the computer that the license was previously used on. They may or may not unlock it depending on the licensing agreement that your employer uses.

I tried to reload my Outlook '03 and they shut me down... they wouldn't even let me activate it enough so I could back up my files. I had to go get O'13 just to be able to download my email and back it up.

I have to reload my O'10 this week (on a clean OS install)... I hope it works!

I've gone through the phone menu thing, including with O'10 last time I reloaded it... it wasn't a problem, but that doesn't sound like what's happening to you.

HUP isn't the same as retail which could be causing your issues.

Just got off the phone with Microsoft. We tried going through HUP with the email I used to purchase it (work), but it doesn't recognize me. I also tried using the email address that gives me the product code and the install for (what is supposedly) my version of office, and that doesn't work either.

I did find it odd that going through HUP would be required here, as the email address that received the activation (a year ago) gave me (as of yesterday) the correct download link and product key for the version I originally ordered (as the version does accept the product key I was originally given).

I think it all boils down to the robbery. If that product is still installed on that computer, she said that there is no way it can be deactivated outside of that computer.

I am just glad it was a HUP license, so I am only out $10. I will just look into getting a new one to have on hand. I will just have to pick up another one before I leave, which will probably be a good ways down the road anyway.

Thanks for the input folks.

I think it's also good to save the installer as well.
The link in the email you receive gets deactivated overtime so you won't even be able to download it again.

That could be it as well. I either didn't save or lost the original installer I had (dumb move on my part). Fortunately, I have improved my backup habits since then.

The only other thing I find puzzling is that the stolen computer had Windows 7 on it, and the same version activated on the replacement computer just fine. But it was on a DVD, not a software link that could be deactivated.
