My computer won't boot with RAM set at 133MHz...and my 3dmark score is too low.

I'm on a VIA KT133 chipset so I should be able to set my RAM at speeds independant of my FSB right? I do this in the BIOS and it gives me an error when I try to boot into win2k. I'll go record the error if it's necessary. My mobo is a MSI K7TPro2-A, my CPU a Duron 800. My FSB is at 120MHz (making my Duron actually 960MHz).

Anyone know how I can get the RAM up to 133MHz? And yes, my RAM is PC133.

And one other thing; I run 3dmark 2001 and I only get a score of 1800. I have a G2 MX and am running win2k. I've installed the 4-in-1's and 12.40 detonaters....How come my score is so low? Others with my setup get well over 2500.

Edit - Took out the 'A' in 'KT133A'.

Two things:

I didn't think the pro-2a was a kt133a board?

I think your option is fsb (host_clk) which for that chip is 100 standard so your ram runs at the 120 you have it boosted to.

Or you have host_clk+pci which would set the ram to 160mhz, and that ram most likely can't handle that...the pci at 120fsb is 40mhz.

You can try to force the ram to cas3 and see if it will work. Quality of Ram is your variable here.

Oh OK. I wasn't aware it wroked like that. I'll just leave it at 120 then, because my RAM is Micron CAS3, so I doubt it will do 160MHz.

I have basically heard that fsb ocing is more of a fine tuner...Can you unlock the chip and up the multiplier and then you can get like a 110fsb boost out of it which will,

a) give your memory a clock speed of 146mhz which is reasonable but may be the real limit for the cas3...

b) give you less possibility of errors and possible HDD damage...most stability issues which fsb boost are related to pci cards and devices not liking the higher frequencies as well as agp card which is 2xpci speed. (standard is 66mhz or 2x33(pci))

Is the system 90-100 percent stable at that 120 fsb?

I would go 8.5x110=935mhz or 9.0x110=990mhz...both seem reasonable

Also ram is cheap sell those simms and get some pc150 stuff which is made for ocing...I even saw some pc166 stuff which would be ideal for that fsb boost.

Yeah I would have the multiplier unlocked except when I pencil over the L1 bridges it only stays unlocked for like 5 minutes (or untill I reboot the computer and notice the MHz). As soon as I find a conductive pen I should be able to unlock it for good...Although I can't find one so far.

And yeah, I'm currently running stable at 120MHz x8.0.

i get a 1450 ish. Its the videocard thats holding me back i'm sure.

Your video card is killing your 3DMark scores. You have the Banshee of Nvidia cards. I would say that you would need at least a GeForce 256 DDR but most likely a GeForce 2 GTS to get your scores up above the 2500 mark.

Good Luck

That is a superior FSB overclock on a KT133 motherboard. Most only do 110 ~ 115MHz FSB.

Well the only reason I ask why mine are 'so low' is because of the fact that there are tons of people with almost the exact same setup as me with scores of 2500 or more. Check it out.

Overclock the MX & you'll get the same results :)

I'm doing 2600 with a GF2/MX 235/212 form the default 175/166

I have a 1GHz T-bird with a GEF2 GTS PRO (235/390) and I only get around 3300. My score is very mediocre compared to others with my same set up. I would not consider my score low, nor would I consider a 1500 with a MX card and a Duron a low score. The card is your bottleneck. I don't know how some of the guys on madonion.com get their scores but if you are looking at the top end scores for your card/cpu don't plan on touching them.
This is my losing battle
