Like I said, I don't know what to tell you... I got this A7N8X Rev. 2 in Feb. with a week 7 XP2500 and ran it at 221x10 with a 75% RAM divider for about 2 months before I upgraded to PC3200 RAM and ran it at 200x11. Then I switched to a week 24 XP2500 and run it at 200x11 on default voltage... and it's capable of running 233x9.5... but that's pointless since my PC3200 RAM won't overclock an inch, and I can't get any more speed from the CPU by using a faster bus. Was one of those 3 motherboards an Asus? I love my A7N8X Deluxe... and a couple friends of mine swear by Asus boards... I don't think I'll be switching brands anytime soon either.
 
yeah i've had that motherboard it wouldn't even give me 200 stable so i took it back

vcore 1.675v
vdimm 1.75v
vdd 1.85v



this is just mind blowing how i get BSOD and instabilty one minute and the next it lets me get some good overclocks



i was thinking about throwing down the money for some water blocks for the northbridge and vid card and maybe going subzero with some pelts
but i doubt i would get any extra mhz
 
Are you or do you even know if you're correctly grounding your boards to the case? I have seen it where it all looks fine and dandy but the person did not screw or lineup the brass mounts and therefore had poor grounding to the case. That could definitely cause you some grief and then some.
 
yeah i've ground each screw hole individually with copper wire to the psu

also i just jugged a grip of whiskey and somehow i've gotten to 211x10.5

vcore 1.8v
vdimm 2.75v
vdd 1.95v

i tryed desperately for 220 fsb but even with 2v vdd 1.95v vdimm and 1.825 vcore I couldn't get it fully stable

i still have to stress test this but 2.2ghz ain't bad
 
ok that wasn'\t fully stable so i'm messing around with mhz between 2ghz and 2.1ghz
ohh well don't look like i'm gonna get any new high 3dmark scores
 
ok screw this i'm gonna buy another cpu

anyone have any recommendations on a cpu that will likely oc to 2.4ghz ??

also i'm gonna buy the abit ic7 max3 P4 motherboard
 
I doubt this is causing your boot problems, but is your video card overclocked beyond its capabilities? That's pretty fast for RAM that probably is meant to run at 512MHz.
 
instead of getting a new CPU, I'd get a new motherboard without any holes drilled in it, or extra wires and resistors soldered to it

nah it's fine i've run the card at that speed since i first purchased it last year

hahaha nah i'm just gonna buy another 2500+ and a new P4 motherboard
then i'll have 3 systems to overclock

besides I don't think any other nforce2 board is gonna give me more fsb

unless maybe i purchased like 5 of them and picked the best one....
 
maybe you have bad capasitors. check and see if they have popped open. i will look as if orange stuff is leaking out of the tops. i bet this is the problem.....blown capacitors/

yeah i've checked them, i just think my hardware is maxed out

the motherboard seems to hit a wall at about 204 to 208 fsb
the mem can do 230mhz (2-2-2-6)
and the cpu can only give about 2.15ghz
(all with max safe voltages)

I buy systems to overclock that's the whole joy of owning a pc for me
I just built a 25"x22"x13" plexiglass case with 10 adjustable speed fans
also i've got a nice water cooling system inside the case

if i ever get a digital camera i'll post pics

hehe it started giving me BSOD again I had to clock it all the way down to 1.3ghz to make it stable enough to play UT
it wouldn't even run the processor at 1.7ghz

maybe i'll just get another nf7-s
I kinda wanted to wait for the VIA socket A chipset that i've heard about but i dunno if it's coming out
 
This is kinda the main reason why I wont run my system oc'd. Sure I have done it a few times, but never left it oc'd for very long. If you push your hardware to the limits, waaayy past where its designed to be, eventually somethings going to blow. I don't know if thats whats happening to soulkeeper here, and I dont mean the board he drilled a hole through, but all the boards he overclocked in the past. Something to do with "electro-migration" or something like that. All transistors have a life span of X years give or take. Severe overclocking will probably cut that to 1/3 of its normal life span. But most of you already know this and figure you will have upgraded your processors long before that happens. But I like longevity. I still have a Pentium 166 rig still running just fine. Slow, but fine. I guarentee that if I overclocked the crap out of it when I first had it, it would be long dead by now.

Soulkeeper, why dont you just buy a 3200+ and save yourself all of this self inflicted aggravation. Sure, it costs a hell of a lot more, but it will get you the speed your trying so hard to get, right out of the green box.. 🙂\

this thread is reminding me of that "who will save your soul" song by jewel. worry not, young soulkeeper, your motherboard has gone off to a better place. it's spirit will never die tho. 🙂

ps. i've also fried my share of hardware. was it worth it? yes. it taught me that volt-modding is a no-no.

Seems to me that paying for three or four motherboards/video cards/etc to get one good system up and running would be even LESS fun.


 
i wonder if my cpu would oc more if I threw it in my old kt133 with pc133 memory

i know even tho that motherboard is old it works well and gets pretty good performance\


then i could use my ddr memory in a P4 system
if anyone can tell me the abit ic7 max3 supports a 400mhz fsb 1.8ghz P4m
 
I just find it amazing that you've drilled a hole in your motherboard, soldered a bunch of wires and resistors to it, and you're surprised that it doesn't work as intended. I can't for the life of me figure out what's so strange about it... I guess you could say, I'm amazed that you're amazed it doesn't work right after all you've put it through.

hmmmm
it didn't work fully stable over 200 before i even did anything to the board
besides it's not intended to overclock anyways

i'm waiting for the new via socket A chipset that is supposed to have the same memory controller tech they used in their P4 chipset
