My computer is sucking

I recently upgraded my CPU/Mobo and had slowdown problems, people said to format and reinstall XP, i tried everything else so i eventually did so, reluctantly. Unfortunately now i have even more problems than before. Takes about 5 minutes to boot up (considering it doesn't freeze during bootup, which it often does), everything is slow to load, blue screens of death around every corner. Constant slowdowns in games make them unplayable. Not sure what to do now. If a format and reinstall of XP can't fix something, what can, right? - Need some ideas. I don't know why my computer is such a mess right now, I can barely use it at all. I will probably try putting in my old parts soon.

You should be hauling with that config, even if one piece of hw is bottlenecking it. I would consider BIOS settings to be the likely culprit. It could be just running everything at half-speed...

BIOS setting would be my 1st port of call there. Default settings are not always the best! I would check manual for the best settings for your hardware. Could be device conflicts also. I would remove all but basic devices and check performance 1 by 1.

I'd first try running memtest86 to rule out memory errors, and then whatever full diagnostic utility your HD manufacturer provides, since HD problems will also cause slowdowns and BSODs.... is there anything mentioned in the System or Application event logs?
