Hello, as of right now I have been using this pc for about a year: Abit KT7 motherboard with a duron 700 @ 910, 256 mb sdram crucial, 6 gig old crappy hdd, win98se, and a pretty close to burnt out hercules geforce 2 mx... It's always been unstable and I think its because i overclocked. And i overclocked my hercules mx also so its kinda burnt out (didnt use any cooling, didnt care about it at that time). Alot of times i get crashes and lockups everyone in a while, i was wondering if i make a few upgrades itll fix it... give me some help here guys. Since overclocking can be a unstable thing i plan on maxing out my mobo's ability by getting a athlon 1.4 ghz, getting a 60 gig maxtor 7200 rpm, same amount of ram, a herc. radeon 8500 oem... i think my motherboard has a history of being unstable but i was guessing most of the instability issues were from my overclocking. I also plan on using Win XP once i get everything, do you think my pc will run solid? Im just tired of how its performing currently. Thanks for reading

well there are two types of overclockers, those who do it right and those who don't. From the looks of it, it seems as if you didn't really know what you were doing at the time and you might have pushed some of your components over the limit. In terms of instability and such, a fresh clean reformat and dling of latest drivers should do you some good. Also check your IRQ's and see that your major cards aren't sharing any. Also set everything at default speeds and see if it's stable. If it is, then you shouldn't overclock so high.
