My Computer doesn't shut down

I need some help.

I just built a brand new PC. Specs are as follows:

i7 2600k chip
MSI H77MA-G43 MOBO
Patriot 4x2 8GB RAM
MSI Gforce 650 ti
Samsung 8600 128GB SSD
Windows 7 Home Professional 64 bit

Computer works great, the only issue is that when I shut it down, it doesn't... The screen turns off, but the PC stays on. It appears that Windows does shut down properly, because when I power it up I don't get any errors.

When I do a reboot, the PC actually shuts down and turns back on, however, it doesn't shut down or even go into sleep mode properly.

I've tried the following already:

Updated the BIOS
Updated Windows
video driver updated

Still can't figure out the issue.

I'm using a fairly old case (Cooler Master Cavalier), can this be the problem? The power button and reset button work fine.

Any ideas?

you mentioned video card... but are the other drivers installed? Especially the motherboard chipset driver?

If the other drivers are installed and it doesnt work this i what i would try...

Boot from a live linux distro and see if it shuts down, SystemRescueCd would do, all you have to do is boot from it and once Terminal is initilized just type "poweroff" to shut it right back down.

If linux shuts down fine, maybe your just using wrong drivers or something... if it cant shut it down, I'd suspect Motherboard or Powersupply at fault, but would first unplug any unneccesary internal Hardware/wires/and external accesseries, and Reseat the remaining attached components just to be double sure, and remove the CMOS Battery while your at it... then once Barebone components are secure plug the battery back in and try power cycling it again. with linux or windows.. that would rule everything else out
