first here is what I have:

Abit KT7 Raid MB
1 GHZ AMD processor
640 MB PC133 Memory
(2) 30 gig Maxtor 7200 RPM HD's (masters)
(2) 80 gig Maxtor 5400 RPM HD's Raided
4x4x16 HP CDRW Drive (Primary slave)
8x4x** HP CDRW Drive (Secondary slave)
Running Windows XP Pro full edition (not upgrade)

I recently did a clean wipe of my boot HD and installed the Raid drives, reinstalled windows XP Pro and then eventually flashed my bios and installed the newest bios.

Here is the problem
When booting up the computer, before windows starts, when it detects all the drives, it finds my 8x burner as a bunch of wierd charactors!?? The charactors are not ones I have been able to make with the keyboard, but just a jumble of wierd shapes? Then every time it boots it runs a disk check on one of my HD's and never finds a problem. Then when it starts to load XP Pro it takes forever!!! It sits at the black screen with the blue bar running across for about a minute, then finally goes to the next welcome screen. When I finally get to my desktop it still takes a bit for everything to get going smooth. I get a ton of "Not Responding" messages. Mostly on AIM and "My Computer" It justs hangs up for a while and if I let it sit long enough it will start responding again and work alright for a bit.

now isn't that messed up? Any clues on what can fix this problem, or why it started??????? I am lost.

The Highly Technical Forum is not for Troubleshooting.

Try removing you 8x burner and try again. If that doesnt work, try removing all your hard drives except for the one with the OS on it.
