Summary: The two most important pieces of information I need is: Which CPU, which motherboard? I can figure the rest out myself :D

My Athlon64 X2 2200 MHz ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe system has died. I suspect it is the motherboard, and will probably find a used socket 939 board to get a working backup system at some point in the future.

But please recommend components for a new system. Value for money and low power usage, especially low idle power are some of my main goals.

I am not looking for a full system with a screen etc. I am primarily looking at:

CPU, motherboard, video card and RAM. I already have several harddrives, an Antec 1040BII case and PSU etc. I figure a new CPU, motherboard, video card and RAM will be enough.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Software development, light gaming, blu-ray playback, normal lightweight stuff.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

I am living in Denmark where prices are different from US prices, so I won't state a specific price. I can say, though, that I am looking at something in the price range of a C2D E7300 with a motherboard at about the same price, video card about the same price etc.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Denmark.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

No clear preferences. Although I am leaning towards an C2D E7300 and some Gigabyte motherboard.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

My Antec 1040BII case, my SATA hard drives.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Skimmed a bit.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Default speeds.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Now.

The two most important pieces of information I need is: Which CPU, which motherboard? I can figure the rest out myself :D

Could you link to an English version of the site where you would most likely purchase these goodies?

CPU: e5200
Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-DS3L, Asus P5Q E or Pro

CPU: X2 4850e or 5050e
Mobo: 780G chipset

You're not a power user so a moderate dual core should be more than adequate for your needs. Add 4GB DDR2 and a 4670/9800GT/4830/4850 to either of those setups and you've got a solid mid-level gaming system with smooth Blu-ray playback (assuming you have a suitable drive) and plenty of power for your other basic tasks. And low idle power as well (especially for the X2 system).

If you do go with the E5200, wait about 2-3 weeks for the $20 price drop from Intel. And what Denithor said is good advice, though I'd add the 9600GT to that list if you game below 1680x1050.
