MY COMPUTER CAUGHT FIRE!!!

x86

Banned
My dad's Athlon XP 1800+ setup w/ EP-8KHA+ caught fire when my foot accidentally knocked the power button when I was installing a water cooler on the CPU to overclock it. Thankfully, I had a pitcher of water for the water cooler by my side. So I quickly poured the water onto the motherboard and CPU. They are both ruined and I am trying to get a refund.

Now I need a replacement computer, all of the accessories and peripherals are still in good shape, it is just the motherboard and CPU that are ruined. I am never going to use an AMD setup again because of its high flammability. This is really not funny after what has happened to me. I decided to turn to Intel, but I require some help in selecting a motherboard for the Northwood.

Which is the best chipset for a DDR solution? I am leaning towards the 845-D because of its high compatibility and stability. I prefer ATA133 as well as integrated RAID for my extra HDD. I also want USB 2.0 integrated for an upgrade path. I have compiled a list of possible motherboard manufacturers: MSI, ASUS, SOYO, ABIT, EPOX, and GIGABYTE. I want the one that offers the least amount of problems. Which is the best overclocker? It is surprising that I have not learned that overclocking can do harm to your computer. 🙂

Thanks for your opinions.

Seems like the docSmarts thing to do would have been to unplug the rig since this is the first thing you do when you put your hands inside a computer...hard way to learn a lesson, damn hard way....and to believe you blame this whole mishap on an AMD setup, c'mon man...

Im sorry for your loss, my deepest regrets 🙁

Always unplug like everyone else said.

I always drag my pc into the middle of my room when doing anything so i always have to unplug everything.

I never blamed anybody. It was just that AMD shouldn't make their chips so flammable.

Bro, face it no matter what chip was in there, it mostlikely would have caught fire too...consider the environment, electricity and water just don't make very good friends...good luck on the dark slide!

<< I never blamed anybody. It was just that AMD shouldn't make their chips so flammable. >>

Since when are AMD chips flammable? Your the one installing a water cooler when the system is plugged in.
And why the hell would you pour water on a motherboard, they have these new things called fire extinguishers ya know.

<< Umm, yea, okay, you are probably an AMD Zealot >>

Who cares if he is, Atleast he knows not to pour water over computer parts.

DocSmarts YOU should catch on fire and burn for trying to get a refund on computer equipment you:

A) Failed to disable the power on while you were working on it
B) Poured water on.........
C) Most importantly, now your lazy, irresponsible a$$ wants to get a REFUND on equipment you so BLATANTLY DESTROYED in such an IRRESPONSIBLE MANNER

I say that teh authorities take you away and put you in one of those rooms with padded walls for being irresponsible and then blatantly state that you will commit fraud to get refunded for items you have just stated you personally ruined.

EAT THE LOSSES.

I hope that they laugh at you when they see the watermarks, rust, crystalization from water that was vaporized.

I guess Docsmarts does not live up to his name. We get that. He is right that this would not have happened to an Intel system. The simple answer is an Intel system does not need watercooling. ok it was a dumb mistake it happens. Dude don't return it cause you fizucked it up. Figure out another angle. Maybe the blue card you should have used will help.

Go to Gen hardware and look for this topic. It's discussed in a discrete manner over there. 😀

gerrick, you're right man, this would have never happened to an intel system...since they run on magic pixie dust, hopes, and dreams; not electricity, right? Oh, and did you know that intels run at a temp of absolute zero, the systems they are in never crash, and they can walk on water...yep, all that...

acutally, u should sue the electric company, because notice how the system was fine until you threw electricity into the equation!

must be the electric company, since they make their electricty so darn strong and flammable!

geez talk about spilling coffee into ur crotch.

if u want to spend 50% for less performance but more *dummy proofing* then go ahead with intel and their blue men an bunnies and such.

Man I wole up in kind of a bad mood and thinking that i was going to have a crappy day. Well not any more! Thanks for cheering me up! Man that's great, hooking up a water block with the PC still plugged in! WOW! That must have been some light show....w00t!! 😀
