Hi all,

Im having a small problem as my computer boots up by itself. I turn it off b4 i go to sleep and when i wake up in the morning its powered on. I know im hitting the "Shut-down" key, not "restart". perhaps theres a ghost in my house ?!?! The specs on the computer are:

Celeron 2.0
ECS L4VXA2
Crucial 256mb pc2100
generic vid and sound

Any ideas?

Check your BIOS and see if there is an option to power on at a given day and/or time.

Specifically wake on power restore, guessing there is enough of an electrical surge to kick it on.

i've checked the bios and wake on lan is disabled. i've checked the event viewer and it says "remote access" for times when i think the computer booted iteself on. im not certain about this. i also changed the surge protector and its still happening so i dont think its the the power surge.

is there anything else that can be the cause of this problem?

Run antivirus? Check scheduled tasks in the control panel. And disable remote assistance, it's a tab in system properties, just in case.

The shutdown key, do you mean a key on your keyboard?
