My computer boots fine... some of the time!

I am really really getting fed up with this!

My problem is, that my computer only wants to boot up some of the time.
So it will be off, and I want to turn it on. At the first press of the power-on button, the cpu spins up, hard drives spin up etc., but it does not make a "BEEP" and the monitor doesn't come on. Second and third presses will be the same... then, depending on the mood of the computer, 4th, 5th or even 6th press will make it finally come on, with a loud "BEEP".

Then windows loads fine. If I turn it off, and turn it on again, when it is already booted, there are no problems - It's only when it has sat turned off for a while, that I have to go through above ordeal...

help!

Sounds like a PSU problem. When the computer first starts up, it sucks up a lot of juice to start the optical drives, the hard drives, the fans, etc. It requires less power to keep those things spinning than to start them up which is problably why once it starts up it runs. I'd be worried if I were you because a failing PSU can kill your whole system.

The PSU is a Tagan that has already been replaced once because it malfunctioned.. so that could very well be it (note to buyers: NEVER BUY TAGAN, in spite the glowing reviews).

It's just going to be damned hard to prove to the shop that I bought the PSU from, that it is broken again - as it does run fine once it's started.

It may not be broken, but rather simply inadequate. Just use it as a spare PSU for a system with lower power requirements perhaps?

some PSUs sometimes just don't match the board. I built a rig for a friend some time and it wouldn't fire up at all pressing the power switch...even this psu was high quality.
I involved another propellerhead-friend of mine who is fit in electronics an he figured out that the signal from the mobo was too weak to fire up the PSU....
Replaced the PSU with an Enermax...problem solved 😉

Had a similar problem , and it was just a bad connection issue, try to unplug the PSU cables to the board and reseat them and see if it is something that simple.
