My company just announced a 4.3% bonus

Cool, we announced a 4.2% average. Meaning some will get 0%, and some will get 8%. All based on meritocracy.

I've always found that meritocracy is a euphamism for "resting on your laurels"-ocracy.

Yup, it's a cash bonus. It's a tradition at my company. In the 20 years I've worked here it's ranged from about 2% - 9%.

I always plow it back into my 401K.

good choice. The company I work for has been between 3-4% since I started there. They just throw it in our 401k automatically. Congrats though, and have a :beer: on me!

Salary * 1.043 = new salary

That's a raise, a traditional "bonus" is a one time payment of Salary *.043

A friend of mine in Buffalo just quit his job at Verizon. He was selling yellow page ads and his salary went from $130K two years ago to 80K last year even though he was the number 1 seller in the office. He was thinking about leaving and when they offered a sevarance package to go, he grabbed it.

p.s. we'll have to get together at the Distillery sometime!

I am trying to either do a masters in optics or I am thinking MBA at the Simon school. Oh, I work for Verizon Wireless which is a different company than Verizon, wierd I know.
