My college won't allow off campus housing

I'm a freshman this year, and was looking next year to rent an apartment with someone, since I like having my own place/own room better than sharing a dorm room. But for some stupid reason my college won't allow off campus housing unless you are a senior OR if you take less than 12 credit hours, commute, or are married.

Why do they care? I assume b/c we are a small private school, they want the $$? This really pisses me off, I don't want to live in the larger dorm building that is crappier than my current one...

You need to come up with some medical excuse that will allow you to live in your own place.

I know some schools want people to stay on campus for their Freshman year (and I completely agree with them), but your school is ridiculous.

My school is tiny, someone would figure that out then I'm screwed. And for the medical excuse, they'd just suggest to buy my own dorm room.

They need to keep the dorms full. I went to a small school, and it was more or less the same way. I actually didn't mind it. Nobody did, really. Living in the dorm was a great experience for me.

I would do this if absolutely necessary, but I would find this a reason not to go to a college. If I cant have the option to do my own thing, then I can find another college that deserves my money.

My school is just as tiny as yours, guarenteed, and I know a bunch of people who "commute" and rent an apartment.

I recommend living in the dorms your first year so you can experience it. Nothing like toking it up while listening on the walkie talkie to see when the RA's are doing rounds.

He's already living in a dorm his first year. His school requires that he stay in a dorm until his senior year.

Just out of curiosity, is this a religious private college?
