IMO, there is a very short cap on cable performance. Once you get above that, more money doesn't do anything.

it's a headphone amplifier. often required for higher end headphones b/c many of them tend to be difficult to drive or if your source is weak. even if it's not required, in general it can improve sound because it adds some buffering between your source and the phones to reduce distortion

WEAK SAUCE! i thought you made it at first.. heh. I wanted to make it.. parts came to like $20-$30 i think.. heh.. i was trying to make it as small as possible. never got around to it.. lazy, and lack the skill to solder in such small constraints.
