My city just got a 5 Guys...

I have a five guys near my house so it's not that busy. Near work it's impossible to get a burger. You will waste the whole hour if not more. They make good burgers a little pricey but I like them. I also enjoy the whopper a lot but every BK in my area just plain sucks. They mess up the order, food is prepared extremely sloppy without being busy, fries are cold too.

It's probably worth a 5 minute trip out of your way. But you won't be writing home about it.

It's along the lines of In-And-Out, or Shake Shack. Better than average, but not the best I've had. Bobby's Burger Palace, for example, blows 5 Guys out of the water in terms of fast food.

Order online for pickup. Laugh at all the suckers waiting in line.

Or if they don't do that for some reason, wait a week or two until the excitement dies down. 5 Guys is the best fast food burgers for sure, but they're not worth wasting 45 mins waiting.

I have to drive 2 exits down the expressway and about 2 miles of local traffic lights. Worth it to go maybe once a month.

If you want flavor try chee burger chee burger.
I used to live a block from a Chee Burger Chee Burger. I prefer 5 Guys to it....faster service at 5 Guys. Both use good quality beef....when it comes to flavor, that's all about the gril and whether or not they put salt on the burger while it's cooking.

There are quite a few good burgers to be had a dives and diners out there. Classic burgers are definitely an art.

Dear god no. Compared to mcdonalds or burger king its ok, but twice the price. Dunno how adults eat any of that crap on a regular basis though.

is chee burger take out / fast food though? I got the impression it wasn't.

In 45 minutes it would be much better to make your own burgers, fire up the grill and have a real meal.

not at all, I have no idea why this fast food joint gets so much hype either.

If you want an overcooked burger and a pile of greasy fries, go for it.

Is it worth fighting traffic for a visit? When we got our first Sonic everyone made a huge deal out of it and I was really not impressed.

Is 5 guys worth 45 minutes of traffic?

Good burger, not worth more than 5 minute wait. Definitely better than Sonic and fast-food sort of burgers though (BK, McD, Wendys etc).

I really don't understand the wait for fast food concept. I never eat it but it baffles me to see the long as lines at the drive thru's. The fat asses can't even get out of their cars and go inside and order. On top of that the wait time could have been used to cook a simple meal which tastes better, cheaper, and much healthier.

I wouldn't wait 45 minutes for one. Let the buzz settle. But I would also not describe them as just like any other fast food. First of all it's not that fast. You'll probably wait 10-15 minutes for your order. Second, anyone who thinks the burgers taste like any other mushy fast-food burger has either been visiting the shittiest Five Guys ever, or has the taste buds and culinary sensibility of a small igneous rock.

Yeah, some people don't know what they're talking about. It's definitely not burger king quality. Not even close.

Five Guys isn't worth a 45 minute wait, and I would say it's not even worth a 5 minute wait.

I went to the one that opened here at it was terrible. First, the place was too damn loud, unnecessarily loud, because the employees kept yelling at each other. Not like fighting yelling but just yelling for the sake of yelling. Have you ever been to an In-n-Out where they input your order and then yell back to the grill that there are four new burgers or whatever? Take that and multiply by 100. The cashier would take the order and then yell it, in it's entirety, to the grill. The kids working the grill would then yell back the entire order. The people working the fryers would yell every action they were taking, like "FRIES DOWN!" and "FRIES UP!". The expediters were yelling out completed orders for people to pick up. Hell, there was one fat chick who was wasking down the tables who would yell "FOUR IN THE DOOR!" or whatever every time someone walked inside. It was a horrible environment they they fostered.

Add in that they didn't have enough seating. It's not like I went the day they opened and all of the tables were packed and people were waiting for others to finish. No, it's because they had about 50 employees working at the time (their staffing was ridiculously stupid) and 15 of them were all on break at the same time and they all had to sit at a different table in the dining room while they took their breaks.

I'd heard so much about how many fries they give you so I ordered a small to share among myself, my wife, and my son. It was the equivalent of a McDonald's medium.

My burger was soggy and didn't actually taste that good; it did not inspire me to do a YouTube mashup of how orgasmic it was, unlike they "Dayum" guy.

Overall, for two burgers, a hot dog, a small fry and a drink we dropped well over $30. I'm never going back.

(My brother, who lives in the DC area, tells me this is not typical of the eastern Guys, so I may give one of those a shot the next time I fly back to visit)

I'ts not always possible to make a meal at home. I prefer making meals at home myself. But there are times when out with the kids we need dinner and fast food is cheap and fast.

I would agree with him. There was always adequate seating, they used computers to take your order. 50 employees sounds retarded. I live in the suburbs though, high pop town but not a city.
