you mean chili recipes, only? Broths of all sort are essential in a lot of cooking. what you call someone pansy for doing, many more would call you ignorant for labeling as such.

Could be. I don't claim to be any great cook. I also have never had the need to cook in mass quantities - this could moderate things. It's just a feeling I have. I feel the same about using ketchup in recipes.

Maybe I should have said "most of the time". There are some cooks who can't make a tasty dish without the aid of some broth - and think they are good cooks.
