Silver coins are easy to find recognize in your change. They sound way different from modern coins. A friend of mine used to get a couple rolls of quarters every week when he cashed his check, and would sometimes find silver. That was back in the early 90s. Dunno if that's still a worthwhile strategy.

They aren't that easy to find anymore. Many hit banks up and just ask for pre-1965 currency to be paid to them or just buy rolls of them and cash out the higher valued and return the 'duds' for bills.

You really can't lose and things like half-dollars and dollars are worth 12-13x their face value.
