My cdrom was fine until I used norton's live update and then my comp rebooted and now my cdrom only reads audio cd's and spits out data cds. ANY SOLUTIONS?

1. Edjam, enabling (or not disabling) System Restore is a big mistake! It constantly monitors all file operations as well as driver and software installs/uninstalls, and makes non-intelligent backups. It could use a few gigs of your HD if you don't disable it!

2. Beerinator, what do you mean "spits out data CDs"? You mean you put a CD in, then double-click on "My Computer", then on the CD-ROM's icon, and the CD gets ejected?

Isnt using winme bad enough, let alone enable system restore?

JK :)

Seriously, does XP come with this "feature" either optional or by default?

Ok I notice this problem when I double clicked on my computer and under the cdrom drive it says COMPACT DISC. SO I threw in a game cd and other various program cds. The little green light goes on and then the tray ejects. But when I throw in a audio cd it reads it fine and plays the music.

I am running win2000pro btw.

therese only a small chance this could work.

Put an audio cd in and let it play all the way through. If your track on the eye is off, this can often correct it by running it through a full cycle.

I was doubtfull about that but it worked man. Thanks a lot. I just fastfowared the whole cd thinking it would have the same effext as playing the whole thing. Thanks again. Lets just hope it will stay like this after I reset my comp.
