My CDrom keeps wanting to run and eject......

What happened was that during a failed Diablo 2 install, I cancelled out. I got some file read errors and cancelled out. I deleted its directory, and scanned the registry for any references to diablo.

After rebooting, my cd kept wanting to run and then it opens it's door and sits waiting. It'll do this even before windows comes up, ie: during boot time. It won't boot any other disks. Every time I close it, in 10 sec or so, it opens up. I've deleted it from device manager and rebooted, as well as physically detaching it from the system without success. After detaching it, the system boots fine, and the remaining Plextor CDr runs fine. Put it back in and same problem. I've also changed drive letters wondering if some file somewhere is referencing it in a path.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance as I probably won't be watching this post all the time.

My system is WinXP Pro. The cd is a creative 52x as a primary slave.

It sounds almost if as if ur cdrom has its eject button stuck and it is randomly ejecting. When the cdrom ejects can you just push the button to get it back in, or do you have to push it?

Have you tried right clicking on the cdrom drive under windows explorer and saying eject then do it again for it to take it back in? See if that resets it, since it is using the OS to control the cdrom instead of the straight drive

Thanks for replying Jason. Eject from explorer will open it, but not close it. My CMOS order is FLOPPY, HD0, CDROM.

Here's something else I've done. I switched CDroms with my wife's machine. Her Rom works fine in my machine. The abn behavior continues, now in her machine. Pushing eject on the Rom gets it to open and close if it's done before the HD runs. That is, when I close the drawer, the rom light comes on, then the HD runs, then it ejects. Wonder if I can run some sort of reset on it's bios?

Hrmm...I wonder if something in your config.sys or autoexec bat is loading something expecting a cd....does it stop before the POST..

so it goes through the vid, ram, and does it recognize the different drives b4 it ejects?

one program that you can use to open and close your cdrom i found is cdplayer just go start run then type cd player and press the up arrow button to eject and again to pull it back in to just check.
