Its barely a year old. but i have to press the eject/open open button several times to get the drive to finally open. I can hear it trying to open but its like its jambed/stuck. its clean ive cleaned all the edges i can get to. Any ideas on whats causing/how to fix this problem? I noticed my Xbox drive does the same thing alot.

Mounting screws or pins too long? I had that problem on my Kublai. 3/16" max on the part that enters the drive - shim the screws or pins out with washers, etc.

was it something that was progressive? because it opened fine the first few months I had it. I used the screws it came with.

Could it possibly be a dust bunny that got into the tray?

Maybe your kids fed it a cookie... ;) or perhaps the way you mounted it put stress on the chassis and it finally warped. Some drive racks are too loose and if you tighten the screws fully, the drive case will be distorted over time. If that happened, you'll be in the market for a new one. The first issue or anything else regarding foreign objects can be resolved by opening it up and giving a thorough cleaning. I do it about every six months on my optical drives.

Could be a couple things.
some cd trays are belt drive others gear drive.
If its belt drive the belts dry out and start to slip, only fix is replace the belt.
If its gear drive, it can be a weak motor or problematic gear.

If you can get the stuff you may try greasing the sides of the tray with some silicon or lithium grease.
Its white, try not to use the grey or black kind of grease as its usually petroleum based and can deform plastic.

Lithium grease you can get at auto parts stores.

Cheaper (time and money wise) solution is to just replace the damn drive. They can be had dirt cheap no-adays.
