This is why I no longer have any pets. They die on you

I lost one cat to leukemia even though he had all his shots. I lost my other cat (my buddy ) to kidney failure... No more pets. Ever.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Just try to make him as comfortable as you can and be with him as much as possible. You and he will both feel a little better for it.

My aunt and uncle's cat is kinda like that. Dang thing is all skin and bones, 18 years old, all it really does it wander around and sleep and eat.

I think the best thing to do is get at least 2 pets of different ages. That way they can keep each other company and the survivor can help you weather the loss better.

Right now we have 2 cats. Calli (a short haired mostly white Calico) is over 22 years old and becoming frail. Pocket Rocket is a three year old playful black and white American Beauty that keeps Calli active and the rest of the family entertained.

I will say that when Calli does eventually pass we all will be basket cases for quite a while. I know its going to hurt badly even with another cat still in the house. I dread that day.
