Seriously though, that sucks for your cat. Your family could at least have the courtesy to lie to you. "He ran away!" I've heard that one a couple times...

This is crap. 6 years is YOUNG. DEMAND they take him to the vet. If they refuse, call a friend to do it for you, or call the humane society and report them for abuse and neglect.

BTW, if this was my cat, 2500 miles would mean sh!t. I'd be home in a day.

Maybe you can find a nice person here that will take your cat to the vet.
I would do it if I lived close by.
