Their insurance wouldn't pay. They always say they aren't responsible for theft, etc. At least that's usually the case.
How the hell are they not responsible for MY car being stolen in THEIR lot
Is a grocery store responsible if your car is stolen from their lot? Is the city responsible if your car is stolen while parked in the street? Is your friend responsible when the car is parked in their driveway?
A grocery store is different from a dealership in that you go to one to buy food, and you give the other the keys to your car.

Where was it stated that the keys were used to steal the car?
Nowhere, and I wasn't taking that into account. The point I'm making is what Marlin mentioned - the "transfer of power" and thusly responsibility takes place at the car dealership and not the grocery store. One of these businesses also carries an insurance policy and a dealer license that holds them responsible for vehicles in their care.
So far though, I haven't seen anything where the mechanic is saying "Fvck you, you pay" - so don't be chomping at the bit to sue. Give him a chance to make amends ... you know, by letting you have that nice Mercedes C230 until you get a new set of wheels ...
