Please help me here. My '99 3.8L Mustang has been keyed :( Dammit... I am soo pissed but there is nothing I can really do except fix it. What is the best route to go here? Insurance covers this w/a $250 deductable. I live in the thumb of michigan and and have had VERY bad luck with paint before. Should I go for touch up or refinish? And where is a very good place that can make my car look nice again? The scratches aren't over the whole car but they are bad nuff to need to have this fixed. (along side - top rear - and spoiler)

thank you very much

I say you find the kid that did it and beat his head into the car until you get enough blood to cover up the scratches :)

ltk007's suggestion will work assuming you have a red Mustang. Otherwise, find and beat the bastard anyways. A little blood never hurt a paintjob!

Same thing happens to me last year. You can't really touch-up if it is a deep scratch. Car paint has as much as 6 or more clear coating on top to protect the colour coat, and retouch only put the colours in the scratch so it wouldn?t look the same as the rest of the car...It look like you may have to paid the deductible to get a paint job :(

Contact your insurance company and put it in their hands. That's what you pay premiums for. Just don't accept the car from the bodyshop until you are completely satisfied with their work. (Which may mean you have to fight with your insurance company and get an adjuster back out there.)

Also think about installing an alarm on your car. One that will go off the next time someone lays hands on your car. With any luck you will then be in a position to implement ltk007's suggestion.

Keyed? What is that? Like some punk took his keys and ran em up and down your car making scratches or something?

Exactly zippy, what kinda idiot would get pleasure out of doing that to a complete stranger. If you have an enemy that would do that megatextel, I suggest an asskicking is due.

Before telling the insurance company to handle it, you might want to see how that would affect your insurance costs. I'm guessing you're young with a fast car, so they are probably pretty high already.

Did you do anyhing to deserve a keying? Park in handi-cap spot? Take up multiple parking spaces? general bad driving?
Just wondering 'cause most people(not particularyly you) with sports cars think they are special and can get away with that kinda sh!t.

I for one take extreme pleasure in introducing my keys to some punks car that thinks he can take a handi-cap spot so nobody will bump his doors.

In many states its illegal for insurance companies to raise your rates for damages you did not cause. But if say he ran into a tree, they could. But for vandalism like this, it would be illegal for them to raise his rates. I know for sure it is in montana

Not as bad as yours, but one day I discovered a bustantially lengthed keying on the passenger side of my 98 Contour. I was pretty pissed but I don't really think about it. I don't know when it happened or who did it. This actually reminds me of a kid who went to my high school school who drove a Benz SUV to school. It was a pretty arrogant thing to do I guess, but of course it didn't deserve the keying that it got.

Take it to the Ford dealer's bodyshop, or find the shop in your area with the best reputation and take it there. You'll see a wide range regarding the quality of the work when it comes to bodyshops. A good bodyshop can sometimes bury the deductible.

yea I agree with those who say get it professionally repainted. Touch up paint is no where near the right color. I too have a Laser Red Mustang and recently was in an accident (lady saw rudolf's blinker but decided to ram me anyways) But I ended up finding out that the color is not really a "red" but its a special clear coat with a clear gold coat that gives it that look. Takes about 3-4 layers of coating to get it right.

I work the 12am to 8am shift at a university and one night one of the cleaning crew came in a said somebody was trying to rip the mirror off my car. We of coarse ran out there to beat the hell out of the guy but the punk had already ran off. Luckly my 67 galaxie mirror is either made of superior metal or the guy was just a huge wus and couldn't get it off. Ever since then I have been driving a 81 plymouth horizan to work and to school. If somebody wants to rip the mirror off it or key it more power to em :p.

For the record, I did NOTHING to deserve this. I know a few people who don't like me just because they are such losers that they have to have beef with people cuz they don't know what else to do. I parked way out by no other but I didn't take up 2 spaces or anything. Didn't even back in or whatnot. ARGH... but now what can I do. I live in the thumb of michigan and don't know where to go to get this done good.

Also the Local ford dealer is not an option because I hate the FCKERS who own it. The owners son happens to be one of the people who was involved. But he didn't acually do it.

BTW :) I do know who did it I think. But I don't really have proof :( I could easily press charges becuse my uncle is a good lawyer.... more input please? thanks guys

Get him in your house, tie him up, throw salt water all over him, and then attach electrodes to his nipples. Hook 'im up to a car battery, and tell him that if he doesen't confess, you're going to leave him like that until the battery is drained.. :p

Lol until the batteries drained :p

Make sure you got a nice trio 1000amp truck batteries for that :D

Man, that's really bad :(

About the deductibles, my dad had an even stupider thing happen to him.

A dood in a rice patty was driving about 80k's in an icy parking lot, slams into a Bmw 328, which (obviously) slides into his car and roughs up the side a fair bit.
He had to get the whole car repainted (heh heh heh), but b@stard insurnace company rasied his ded. from $25 to $500!!!
Insurance companies here in Ontario are vicious! :(
