My car just died , I think.

so i have a 93 chevy cavalier, ive had it for about 4 years. I had to do major repairs on it, a few times, and it still has some problems.

The car lately has been going through engine oil like its water lately. i actually filled it up two weeks ago, completely.

Today when i was driving home from work i decided to stop at burger king to get something to eat. Right after the guy takes my order my car just shuts off right there, while im at the drive through window. The car wouldnt start, so the manager of the burger king and some other guy helped me push the car to the side, which was pretty embarrassing lol.

I go to check the oil and its completely empty. I never saw any smoke, and the gage meter never complained because its broken, apparently my car is taking in water, and it might have cause a short circuit or maybe a fuse or something.(yes my car sounds like a disaster cause it is.)

So i walked to the pathmark which was only a block away from where the burger kind is and i picked up 3 bottles of motor oil, filled up my car and it still wont start. Nothing i can do.

My dad is going to check it when he gets home but for the mean time my car is still at burger king LOL

Was wondering if the cars engine is stuck and i need a new car, what can i get for between 3,000-4,000 dollars , it cant be over 4000, thats all i can afford right now.....I refuse to put myself in any kind of serious debt, right now i only owe 700 bucks on my credit card and thats cause i just bought a laptop that im paying off, before that i i only owed 100 bucks on my credit card and NOTHING ELSE! I have the money for the laptop but i figured instead of sending it in , put it towards buying a new car.

I dont care much about looks and i dont want it to be anything newer than a 2002. I need to keep my insurance down, but i guess it kind of works out cause i dont think with my budget i can even buy a used car thats a 2002 or newer

Right now im looking at a white 2000 dodge neon, my mom has a 2001 dodge neon which she bought brand new, but it has been very reliable , she has never had a single problem with it , and the cars acceleration is great even though i dont care about that too much.

I just want something that would last me a long time, i dont want to have to keep making major repairs like i do with my car, and i need something thats economical gas wise.

Someone said toyotas are good, but which models ?

You seized something. Not worth fixing. Find an old 700-series non-turbo Volvo. They'll run forever.

Laugh, you might be able to find a nice Volvo 850, I loved that car. My wife had an old 240 thats got close to a million miles on it. It's somewhere in Kansas.

What do you mean exactly ? sorry i dont know much about cars. When i try to start it , it makes the regular engine noise like its about to start but it dosent.

also to the people recomending a volvos, seems like strong car but i was thinking about something alittle newer. Like said before i dont care that much about looks but i would like it to atleast blend in with the other cars instead of looking like my car now, an old piece of sh!t lol.

bah, you don't want another car that manages to just blend in. my old volvo and my new one.. character.

The850

My newer used v40inspiration.

Toyota Corolla or Chevy Prizm, nearly identical cars. I have had my corolla for nearly a year now and it has given me problem-free 10K miles. It will be about the same size as the cavalier and it will get comparable mileage if not better.

If you do go for an old Corolla or Prism try to avoid the 3-speed autos. They're plenty reliable, but you REALLY notice the lack of that 4th gear.

I forgot to mention, mine is the 5spd manual. It feels like i have a mini turbo compared to the three speed.
