Thank goodness you're okay. Was that a corolla? I can't even tell by looking at the pics.

If you and your wife were wearing seat belts, do you feel they helped?

minivan / SUV 3rd row seating is a death sentence, I say... though I know a certain company claims survivability even with a 50mph impact.

She hit me at full speed (~65mph) offset to the driver's side. This knocked me into the car in the next lane. We spun around banging on each other several times and finally landed facing 180 degrees from where we started. They had to cut me out of the car. I wound up with 6 broken ribs, a broken arm, and a concussion. I spent 8 days in the hospital, 5 of which were in the ICU. While in the hospital I got a case of pneumonia that was resolved before they let me out.

My wife got lucky and only wound up with a mild concussion. I was the only one involved that was seriously injured.

Holy hell that was a big bang. I hope you have a good personal injury lawyer.

What are you going to drive, a Lincoln Towncar? Camry is a midsize, probably the most common size car on the road.

He got slammed into at 65MPH by a car that probably had 50% more mass than him. The fact that his wife walked away with only a concussion and he "only" had some broken bones says a lot for the saftey of the Camry. The both lived. What more could you really ask for?

As for the OP, how sobering was it to see your car after the fact? I think that for me that would be the hardest thing. Seeing the mangled mess of a vehicle and just wondering how I managed to survive.

Glad to have you back. Even though you can "make up" your time at school you should still sue for YOUR TIME that you lost out of YOUR LIFE because of her stupidity. Get your work to document your lost time and figure the cost of lost tuition to your school.

Don't forget to get paid for your pain and suffering. I have heard of a judgement of $30,000 for a broken finger. A broken arm and six ribs should equal more than twice that. I mean here you are at a stop light minding your own business and wack your next three months are screwed up. It is as if she walked up to you and started hitting you two with a baseball bat. Was she on a cell phone? Ask the police to check. If you can get some criminal charge or even a traffic ticket against her, then her insurance company might roll over on a settlement instead of going to court.

Best of luck and heal fast.

Considering the damage and your medical bills I wonder if her insurance limits have been hit and a lawsuit against her will bankrupt her......

Depends on her limits. ICU beds are in the ballpark of $3000 a day. So there's almost $15,000 alone. That doesn't include the EMT response, labs, drugs, and various diagnostic testing that would have been done.

Juding by the age of the Camry, it would be a replacement cost of around $8,000 or less.

Overall bill would probably be under $50k for him and his wife plus the car.

Let us just hope that the woman that smacked into him even had insurance!

Are those MSRPs? Insurance companies often get big discounts.
