2 years straight...it failed inspection for...*drum roll*....burnt light on my passenger side headlight. On both ocassions, I went to replace it, but then I noticed the light was working . My car is haunted by the ghost of old light bulbs.

How long can I keep this back up in the car? It has been sitting in my glove compartment for 2 years now....

Is this your Mazda 3? What year and how many miles? Seems like you've had a crap ton go bad on it...or maybe your regular rants just make it seem that way.

lol is it a VW by any chance? My rear right brake light would go off for weeks at a time and mysteriously come back to life. Dunno why.

I changed it maybe 5 times in 3 years, but it always went out - eventually I just left it that way (it was only 1/2 a circle, so the cops wouldn't bug me.)

Googling around showed that this was a fairly common problem too.

Check, clean, maybe replace the connector that goes to that headlamp bulb. Odds are it is corroded. Also check the chassis grounds near the headlamp in question.

A VW/Audi with electrical problems... NO!!!! :p

But when I did inspections if I saw a bulb out the first thing I would do is tap the light. Many times that was enough to make it work. If it did then I tell the person to keep a eye on it (loose connection or bulb about to go out) and also made note in my inspection paper work.
