well, firstly id admit it was naive of me to leave my face place on and my cds in plain sight in a college town...

but this morning while my friends were eating, someone ran in and said "a red car got broken into!" they joked that it couldve been my car, but turns out it was.

i came out to my old 93 nissan sentra se-r with a smahed driver's window, and the whole dash literally TORN APART, Clarion DXZ615 gone, along with 250 CDs. What pissed me off is that these amateur thieves couldnt have jimmied my car but they had to do the smash-and-grab. What's dumb is that they managed to clean the map tray of a walkie-walkie, chapstick, a comb, and other stupid items, when they left my 2 amplifiers which was in plain sight sticking out from under my seat... and they wouldn't have had to rip or tear anything up to remove the amps either >

anyways, worst thing is that i only have 1-way coverage being that i live in a very nice and peaceful town... so im pretty much screwed. called the cops and had them sent a fingerprint unit over...just for formalities..i doubt the cops will do anything about it

its a perfect day outside right now, and i was planning to go see the Oklahoma State at Texas game, but i guess somebody's always gotta rain on your parade

Sorry to hear that dude, but join the club! ;) My car(s) have been broken into a total of three times here in college. It sucks. That's actually why I NEVER have the original CDs in my car, only copies. Most time I think the value of the music is more than the audio equipment itself.

It totally sucks that they ripped apart your dashboard though :( I hope you can get a decent price on repairs. Some advice: if your repair estimates are insane, you should try and find a salvage yard near you. I'm sure you should be able to find a similar car to yours with an intact dashboard area, and you might be able to get that out and into your car for minimal cost. I've seen it done.

Anyway, I hope the cops find those bastards. In one of my break-ins, they actually found the bastard kids who did it. But they were minors and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, so I was unable to get restitution out of the little twerps :|

Just to let you know you got off easy. In Flint, MI where I go to school they dont just break the windows, which would be nice, they try to rip the lock and door handle right out of the door, along with drill or punch out the lock cylinder. Someone attempted to get into my '91 riviera and was unsuccesfull, yet managed to do about $600 worth of damage. My friends '97 Integra just had an attempt as well and has nearly $900 in total damages. And that is without them getting into the vehicles. A smashed window and a stolen cd deck is a lot cheaper than body damage! It still sucks and I hate to hear it happen. Oh yeah and when my friends car had an attempt on it, it was at a resteraunt called Bennigans (sp) and they had servailance cameras, but it still came out as an open and shut case with no suspects and nothing will ever happen to the bastard that made the attempt.

kinda ironic...our loss prevention (security) guy at work bought a new dodge ram 1500...beautiful truck. That first week he bought it, somebody stole the emblems off the stock rims. He added some cameras to watch over the parking lot...now i park close to him so that my car is in view of the cameras.

Would you rather they steal the car?

With my '91 Riviera with 120K miles on it I wish they would have stolen it instead of just destroying a door, get more back in insurance! With my new vehicle I would rather them just bash out the window and take my deck though. I have an alarm with starter kill, besides most people here are not into stealing cars, just whatever is in them.

almost the same thing happened to me a few months ago, however i was dumb enough to leave my faceplate on and my door unlocked...what bothers me most is they took a section of my dash, and i cant find a replacement (1981 ford f250) so its next to impossible to install a new stereo now...this kind of shvt really pisses me off

Maybe you should look into getting an alarm first? Or did you have one?? Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident.

I've recently had my window smashed out also, but I think the alarm scared them off. $30 for a junkyard window and I was good to go.

all i have is half of a defunct alarm installed by the previous owner.. .its funny, the "brain" of the alarm is supposedly removed, but sometimes it acts strange and wouldnt let me start my own car...

anyways was it difficult to install that 30$ window by yourself? i hear the going rate is about ~150$ for a new window installed... i dont think i have the capacity:)P), patience, and time to do it myself

That is why I'm sticking with my factory sound system with my '99 Lumina. Less likely someone will break into my car.

It was very simple. If you could get your door panel off, you could change your window. Just find all the screws for the door panel, some are hidden quite well, and make sure you know which screw you pulled from where.

There were only two bolts holding my window in place. The replacement window just slid right in, put the screws back, door panel on, and that was it.
