You have an engine in your closet for an '86 Corolla? :Q
What type of engine Carrot39?
An engine from a 88 Chevy Nova. Rebuilt and it only had 90 thousand miles on it. Really nice car too but the timing belt broke and the owners just let it sit for years so I pulled the engine out and rebuilt it.

VERY strange. Toyotas are "supposed" to last forever. Have a look here:

Timing belt could have had a defect in it.
Pop off distributor cover and turn over the engine. No movement of the rotor means timing belt.

My condolences. . .
I wonder how much longer mine's gonna last. 1996 Ford Taurus with 222,000 miles; original engine and transmission. **keeps fingers crossed**
Holy cow that's quite impressive. The trannys in those older Tauruses were definetely the weakest link and would die around 75K-125K miles.'
If you're a big Taurus fanboy like I am, you should check out the taurus club

Not to be a smart ass, but does an 86 Corolla even have an ECU?
