My camera is here!

I have so much to learn...my Nikon D40 came in the other day, and I have almost no idea how to use it! Fortunately, the 'auto' setting usually knows what it's doing..

Not bad for auto. 😉 But yea don't compress your JPEGs as much. It's really noticeable.

1: I'd back up and show more of the doors. You don't want to cut off main features like that.
2: Try using a tripod with longer shutter times to slow the water.
3: Not bad, a little plain.
4: The two out of focus sticks kinda throw my vision off.

The large shots are compressed too much..? I might have to shoot RAW, then...those were shot with the highest quality jpeg setting on the camera.

The large shots are fine. I shoot in normal JPG mode, best quality for the size. You can really see the artifacts in the smaller pics. Like around the weeds in the last pic, for example.

IMHO this forum needs renamed. Right now it's for discussing digital cameras under the consumer electronics category. That's not photographic technique, which is what this thread is mostly about. 🙂

And yes CadetLee I meant the small ones have too many artifacts.

I don't think photographers and other people who know about digital cameras would hang around if topics were filtered to an exact rule.

I'm just saying the forum should be called "Photography and Cameras" or something like that, not what it currently is.

And tripods aren't *too* bad. I got a nice Manfrotto for I think $115.
