My camera is dead

I have a Kodak DX7440. I pulled the battery off the charge and was starting to place it into my camera. When it was just starting to enter the camera I heard a really loud pop which sounded a lot like a cap gun going off and then a fairly large flash came from the camera. Now my camera is totally dead.

I was just wondering what could have caused this. The battery's contacts are recessed a little and everything is plastic around the battery compartment except for the metal hinge for the battery door.

Im just hoping my warranty covers this 😛
