In high school I had a very good calc book.

I come to college, start off in Calc II, and we use a book, 'Calculus: One and Several Variables.' It weighs more than all my other textbooks combined and still sucks ass. Entire steps are missed in the explanations, and it doesn't help that my prof has a ph.D from the University of Moscow and I can't understand him :( He's smart though.

/end rant.

I'm screwed.

I've got some bad news for you, Cal II sucks in general. If I hadn't already survived it, I would probably change majors to avoid taking it again, but that's just me. The only good news I can give you is Cal III is much easier (unless your professors an ass).

Remember integration. Depending on your major.. it may come back to haunt you. Over.. and over.. and over. I'm in my 4th year and I still have to integrate various and sundry CRAP.

Get the solutions supplement for your text if the bookstore carries it
-and/or-
Go to the school library / public library / amazon.com and get another book to fill in the gaps
-and/or-
Join a study group and work together to figure things out
-and/or-
Switch to a business degree ;)

At finals time "I hate my book" isn't going to do much for your grade. Think of it as a problem and solve it.

I understand about the prof though, my stats teacher had extremely poor English so the class lectures were pretty much useless. I had to learn it all from the text, and the students used to learning by lecture were totally lost and either dropped or failed.

That is the BEST CALCULUS book EVER! I loved it, it gives rigorous mathematical treatment to subjects, and that's what real Calculus is all about.

At that level of math they don't feel they need to hold your hand for each and every step, it's pretty standard fare for calculus books to leave out steps they deem unnecessary to explain.
