My C2D E4500 Vs AMD II X2 250 worth it?

I am planning to upgrade and microcenter has that very nice deal i want for $65. Would i see an impressive amount of increase of speed?

Not really, depends on how high you can clock the 250. What's your E4500 at now?

i think the 250 might end up being say 15% faster but it probably wouldnt' be super noticeable at stock speeds.

Under stock conditions, I'd say the 250 is faster. Overclocked, less difference in performance between the two. Not really a worthy upgrade IMO.

in that rig you can throw in a 5850 or nVidia 260 216 shader pipelines

Athlon II X2 was never die harvested, it has been since launch, and still is AMD's only native dual core based on k10.(At least for desktop). One clear way to back that up is look at L2 cache, it has more per core than any other AMD processor right now. If it was a disabled quad, how did it get more L2 cache than the quad?

Phenom II X2 on the other hand, just like Athlon X2 7X50 series were both crippled quads.

To the OP - I would try to save for at least an Athlon II X3 and might still not make a noticeable difference in most of your applications.

yeah if you are upgrading from a dual core to a dual core, you will be disappointed unless you wait for 3.33 GHz clarkdale+mobo for $60 deals to come along. your computer is fine though, have you tried overclocking it? Should be able to hit at least 2.8 GHz. but generally speaking you don't need any higher than 2.4 GHz unless you're doing real work or real games.

I have an E4500 in my HTPC and simply set the FSB to 1333 which OCed it to 2.93GHz. Didn't even need to bump the Vcore. Those are very overclockable chips.

only very few Athlon ii X2s are die harvested... but only to make sempron 140/145s. but athlon IIs are the perfect dies.

You'd be better with the other two MicroCenter deals.....the Athlon II X4 630 or the Phenom II X2 555 Black for $99.99. Both come with the same motherboard as the $65 deal, but better processors.

And don't know about that Biostar A760G M2+ motherboard, but more than a few people have successfully unlocked the other two cores in that Phenom cpu above.
