my burner is busted (i think)

my ricoh 6624 burner reads cds but it doesn't recognize blank cds. thus i cannot burn anything. i've reinstalled the software i'm using (adaptec create cd 4) and tired literally dozens of blank cds, and multiples kinds.

are there any other things i haven't thought of doing?

and don't tell me to buy a faster burner, i'm a broke college student (gee, i'm sure you've never heard that)

I think that model had a known problem with the drive rails getting "dry" and not working properly. The solution is to grease the drive rails, do a search and you should be able to find a lot of information on this subject. I can tell you from experience that greasing these rails is not an easy thing to do, but usually clears up the problem.
