ive been piecing together my new rig, shopping around looking for the right price. so far ive gotten the proc, motherboard, and power supply. i havent been into the hardware side of computers for a while now and ive just recently gotten back into it, which is mostly the reason i signed up on this site. i was wondering if i am going to run into any problems with my config and was wondering how good of a setup it is.

[Edit]: Already bought the power supply, HSF, and RAM

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Dual-Core 1MB Per Core

HSF:
ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan with Heatsink

Motherboard:
MSI K9N SLI Platinum Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

Hard Drives:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (x2)

Power Supply:
OCZ GameXStream 700W SLI Ready

Video Card:
XFX PVT73GUGD3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

RAM:
OCZ 2GB PC2 6400 DDR2 800Mhz Platinum

DVD
some crap one from my old comp

so what do you think? is it good enough to play the new games out right now? i know the vid card isnt the greatest but i got it for cheap from a friend of mine and i figure it'll hold me off till DX10 whenever that happens to roll out.

Seems fine to me, looks like you were able to grab one of the rare 1mB cache AM2 x2's. My brother has the same video card, it's capable of playing games at modest resolutions, you should be fine

i was just reading my motherboards manual out of boredom and read that the ram slots are 1.8v. the ram i bought says 2.1v. will there be any problems with the difference in voltage? can i change it in the BOIS or something?

if i didnt already buy the proc and mobo i probably would go c2d. but at the time i bought it the 1mb caches were becoming rare and no one had a hold of whether c1d or am2 was better. what about the ram though. will the voltages be a problem?

Oh... I didn't read all of your OP. Why did you figure you needed SLi for a 20" widecreen? Oh well, that psu is good.
What vdimm does that memory run @ 2.1? I don't think am2 boards POST above 1.9vdimm. If you have any RAM lying around, you can use that to POST, then install the OCZ and you'll be fine. Or corsair ddr2-800 is 1.9v...

i was going to get a 460-500w ps. i think there was a thermaltake one that i was looking at that was going for 84$. then i was looking around on ebay and saw that one for 80$. i figure it doesnt really matter, its not like i spent a whole lot of money for it.

but anyway can anyone tell me if the ram voltages are going to be a problem?

Wow, $80? Smokin'... was it brand new?
Seems like you can post up to 2.1v RAM, but you'll need a bios update to push it farther.

700W is complete overkill. 400W Strider, Enhance ENP, or Enermax Liberty would be enough. A 460W Masscool Nextherm or Enhance ENP if you want some more room for a DX10 GPU.

Oh, I didn't see that. I wonder if he got the GXS 700W from a recommendation by Dave H. at Hard|Forums or EOC.

That's what I've heard... but you can't change the ocz RAM to 1.8v w/o booting up first, so you'll have to use some other sticks to boot. Even a 256mb stick will work.

i hope thats the case. as soon as i read that in the manual for the mobo, i was like oh $h!t. then i was reading the reviews on newegg about my mobo and specifically OCZ ram. out of 50 something reviews only 1 guy said he got his to work by changing the voltage. hopefully it will work with mine. im just waiting on the video card right now to put it all together. i look back and wish i had gone c2d instead of am2 now.

how do you think this setup will like the new games?

Well, you'll be happy with this setup, if you get a dx10 card, it will really kick ass.
You should be gaming at like 40fps with the 7600gt, definetly playable at high settings on that 20" screen.
Have fun and welcome to the forums!:D

damn, only 40fps. i was hoping for more than that. i dont really want to go all out on a video card when dx10 is on the way. whats a good vid card for the 140$ to 200$ range?
