I would seriously reconsider using that Aspire PSU that comes with the case you are getting.

For an addition $50 - $70 you can get a PSU of much better quality and reliability!

Zalman -alcu is cheaper, lighter, and cools 99% as well as the -cu.

I'd get a Biostar TForce, but I don't overclock.

SATA2 drives work fine in SATA1 motherboards, just set the SATA1 mode jumper on the back of the drive. I like Samsung Spinpoints for cool and quiet but check the Hot Deals forum for bargains.

Tiger Direct (boo hiss!) has a Microfly mATX cube with Ultra brand PSU for under $100, according to the review at sudhian.com it's roughly as good as the QPack, but a little deeper so you don't have to worry about the power supply and DVD drive beinng too close.

i intend to overclock

any ideas on the monitor? im thinkin i could prolly get a cheap one for like 30 bucks and get a better one later

Biostar might overclock well too, I just haven't looked.

Try a WTB post in the FS/FT forum, you might get a CRT monitor for free. I tried to give a 17" away here in the Seattle area but no one wanted it even at $0.

Well, it's 126.5mm tall, so if that plus the height of the installed mobo+CPU is less than the available space... then yes. Sorry, I don't know how much space there is.

EDIT: This should work for sure, but I don't know how well it performs compared to the F64P.

The zalman 7700 is 13636x67
the zalman 7000 is 109x109x62
the Artic Freezer 64 Pro is 104x58x126
and of course they are talking mm and lxwxh

also concerning a PSU - once you start talking over clocking thats a whole different aminal.
Yet there are those as myself who before I got on the PC Power & Cooling bandwagon I was o/c with a generic OKIA PSU!

You might try looking at some of these and see if there is anything close that will do you!
Most Fortron PSU are real good bang for your buck. You won`t be disappointed!
Also I know tyou have heard this already - Its not wise to spend less money on your PSU that any other component in your computer.

Your PSU is the anchor of your system. Without a good solid PSU your not going to go anywhere for very long.

Good Luck!!

Correct me if I am wrong but the stick PSU is the same size as a regular PSU.

Here's what I'd do:
$112.99 -- Intel Pentium D 805 (newegg.com)
$95.69 -- ASUS P5ND2-SLI (newegg.com)
$80.00 -- 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2-667 (ms4me.com)
$65.90 -- Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS (zipzoomfly.com)
$40.45 -- ASUS EN6200TC128/TD/16M (newegg.com)
$37.69 -- FPS Group ATX350-PA (newegg.com)
$14.99 -- Coolmax CV-590-WHITE W/O PSU (newegg.com)
$447.71 shipped

If you're on a $500 budget, that leaves $52.29 for stuff like a DVD burner ($28), a better video card or a better case, depending on your preferences.

I'm a little confused here, but why do you intend to overclock. If its for games then you are going to want to splash out a bit more on the video side of things rather than elaborate heatsinks.

Also as far as a power supply goes, unless the one that comes with the case is truly awful you won't need to change it.

I used to run my system - see signature - on an Antec Neopower with no problems at all and trust me mine guzzles power.

If Tiger is a boo hiss, you don't have to buy it there. You can get the MicroFly at many resellers and you don't have to get it with a PSU either, so you can save money by not paying for a PSU you won't use AND get a case that accepts most PSUs:

The HSF's that come with AMD's these days are pretty sweet. I'd only change it if you want something a lot quieter.
