My attitude is fine, luckily, I did not need your help to become a successful person. I have common sense enough to figure that not everyone in my race group will have access to the same opportunities and support that I did and that it is unfair to expect that. So it sounds like its not using public tax dollars, so no issues from me here. And if any of this private money helps reduce the problem of minorities being disadvantaged (which ultimately ends up with the minority part of the thug culture) then I'm all for it. And it's a win for everybody, including whites.

I have a feeling we won't see much difference though over the next 5 years. This is a big problem that needs to be unwrapped, and I see it taking 20+ years.

I just hope whites have the same opportunity in areas in which they are the minority in the future and people remember this.

Correct. Part of any corrective action process is a root cause analysis. Poverty and gang violence, though now ingrained and seemingly self-perpetuating, are still symptoms of underlying root problems. The reason why people are already panning this program as 'political' is that they're cynical, and not without reason. Too many programs in the past have only attempted to address symptoms. Money is thrown at the situation and when (surprise!!!) it doesn't fix anything, it's always because not enough money has been spent. Some of those programs may have been done with good intentions but many are just throwing bones at the target demographic to keep their votes in line. Remember LBJ's quote, "I'll have those n*ggers voting democrat for the next 200 years".

So, do politicians have the guts to 'go deep', find, and address the root causes of the problems faced by poor minorities of color? Or is it more expedient to keep throwing bones to keep their pet demographic in line and have an issue that they can constantly parade out when it suits their purposes?

Oh it's on the White House website...well in that case I should take it as gospel. I don't have an issue with the program; I do have an issue with another program that supports and sustains racial segregation coming from the President of the United States.

Yea, we do need to know the reasons that this demographic is killing each other at record rates and why the prison population is largely populated with young black males. Yes we do and yes the core issues need to be addressed.

President Bush, when he was Governor of Texas also started a bunch of similar government programs to help the various youth. Since Texas has a lot of underprivileged white people living in small towns, a lot of his programs specially targeted them and there was no backlash, everyone actually supported those programs. And yes, those programs did involve free tuition to state public schools, free mentoring, free tutoring and other such things (though I don't think any scholarships were provided). A friend's white girlfriend who lived in a teeny tiny city was one of the people I know who personally benefited from the program.


I don't understand why George Bush can make government programs to help children and everybody approves of them, while Obama does substantially less and a lot of people criticize him for it.
