LOL.. She was saying that she wanted a new car. She went out for a couple of hours, and came back with it. He didn't even know what she was doing.. LOL. She's the kinda person that will just go out and do something without thinking about it.

She didn't even really want it, but she got caught up in it all, and pretty soon it was too late.

It's in excellent condition, 50,000 miles. Red, with the 200HP V6 and 5 speed. I don't know what kinda APR she got, but the car was 8k - a bit on the high side, considering its options(not many).

It's much more roomy than her old Prelude, and quite a bit more powerful, too. Although, insurance is more since she has to get full coverage.

The 3.8L V6 is a pretty damn solid engine, isn't it? Overall, it should serve her well.. are there any problems to look out for on them?

It even gets better highway milage than the Prelude. 😉

Update:

Wow, I just found out that her interest rate is 24%. :Q

Should she try and see if she can get refinanced?

whao.... what a spontaneous person.. that's cool.

hey, I have a 4 banger toyota that save even more gas and half the horsepower!

anyway, you gotta be kidding, the Prelude waste more gas than a v6 camaro?

Yep.. seems weird, doesen't it?

The Prelude gets 23MPG city, 27MPG highway.. the V6 Camaro gets 19MPG city and 31MPG highway.

The prelude makes 135HP at 6200RPM and 127ftlbs at 4000RPM.., and the car weighs 2639lbs .. the camaro makes 200HP at 5200RPM and 225ftlbs at 4000RPM.. and weighs 3323lbs.

She doesen't know anything about cars. So I guess it's good that of all the domestic cars she could've gotten, it's something that should be fairly reliable, and if it does break.. parts should be cheap.

Not that weird. The top gear on the Camaro is insanely tall. That engine is probably spinning half as fast as the Prelude's was at highway speeds.

Oh, I know. It just goes against conventional wisdom.. just goes to show you how important gearing, etc is. You're exactly right, the Prelude spins at over 3000RPM while cruising, while the Camaro spins at like 2000.

I'm having trouble finding quarter mile times on stock cars, but the Camaro's engine is considerably more torquey, even though it weighs some 700lbs more.. I am sure it's faster.

We're talking about an 88 Prelude here, remember..

It was a POS. The previous owners screwed the car up pretty bad with their shoddy mechanic work. It's been a money pit ever since she got it. I am sure the Camaro will serve her better, and as much as I dislike domestic automobiles... she could've done a LOT worse.

The 3800 V6 is one of GM's best motors from what I hear. I have the same motor (albeit supercharged) in my GTP and it's nice. Good low-end torque and decent mileage.

My dad used to have what sounds like the exact same car, only in black. He sold it in 02 with 125K on it (he drives a lot, obviously). The only issue we had with it was an ECU that went out around 60K, but that was taken care of under warranty. I wasn't too happy with it at the time, damn thing just died. It's a GM product, so expect some sort of electrical strangeness at some point. Otherwise, it's a pretty fun car to drive, just not at all roomy, and not comfortable for any passengers. The front pass seat just would not slide back enough, and there's that annoying transmission hump. But that's just me being picky, congrats for your bro's girl!

Oh, and I almost forgot... it's SIMPLE to work on! Look under the hood, there's so much leftover space from going with the V6 that you can pretty much perform all the routine maintenance while standing in the engine compartment!

really? my friend has a V8 Camaro (two generation back, with 4 square headlights, which I liked best), and iirc the distributor sits way back behind the engine and the spark plugs are under intake manifold facing downwards (so you have to take them out from the bottom). I thought that would be hellish to take care off.

Well, that's better than my sister, who just brough home a '02 Mustang V6 convertible.

🙁

The engine in those things is a joke.

The engine in the Camaro is actually a VERY good one. Series2 3800 (3.8L buick motor with Dual balance shafts).
The car, with a 5 speed, is very quick. Also ALL the V8 suspension modes will also fit that car. So easy thing to do is get larger sway bars from a Z28/SS/TransAM/etc... and pop those on. Will ride about the same but handle even better.

Try to switch her to 10W30 Mobil1 and DON'T use fram oil filters. Go to wal-mart and get the tech2000. Or Autozone's STP, Napa's NapaGold, etc...

Agreed. I've never seen the point of a V6 Camaro. Same for V6 Mustangs. It just seems like those things should be mutually exclusive.

Why not Fram? Is Fram bad for Camaros or just all cars in your opinion?

Fram has a bad rep..

Yeah. You don't need to tell me about oil and filters. 😉 lol...

At least I'll be able to change her oil for her now, instead of her having to have a place like Jiffy Lube do it. Her Prelude was too low.

Same thing as wings for Civics, except it isnt quite as bad.

Oh, bah. Sure, the V8 is going to be more fun, but .. shrug?

As long as it's solid, that's all that matters.

i think ur talking about the 3rd gen camaros. even the v8's were doggidly slow, oh well, i too like how it looks. i like the 93-97 camaros the best though. the headlights are similar to the 3rd gens. the 98-02 camaro's headlights always looked a little strange for me.

heres a pic, not my car though

They have both always had a 6 banger and for a periods both have even offered 4 bangers. Those pay the bills and keep the v8 version from costing a fortune. They aren't exactly slow either. Sure compared to the v8 versions they are but compared most other cars (88 prelude being one) they aren't.

The more modern V6 camaros/mustangs are usable, but the earlier ones have pissy ass engines. The early/mid 90 camaros and mustangs had some weakass V6s that even the automotive rags at the time were laughing that saturn station wagons would burn them.

The 3.8 camaro with a manual is ok, it runs high 15s, and same for the current mustang 3.8 V6 with manual. But if you pair them with autos, they become dogs again, especially when you consider how fast even common cars are becoming these days.

She got completely ripped off.. I've seen similar cars a year ago for $4500-5500 with V6 and 50k miles.. Hell, I got my 50k-mile 97' Camaro Z28 30th anniversary edition 6-speed for $9250.
