My brother isn't so happy with his 360

My brother finally got a 360 about a month or two ago. I stopped by his place after he got it to play some games with him and his dog jumped off the couch and onto the open DVD tray, jamming it halfway in. We couldn't fix it, so he called Microsoft to get it fixed since it was still under warranty. They said there would be about a 3 week turnaround, so he sent it off. 3 weeks later he gets a package. That package contained a refurb Xbox 360 rather than his brand-new Premium. Not a big deal, but kind of annoying since they said they would simply fix the drive and send it back. So he fires it up...and it won't play any games. The refurb unit won't read discs. So he calls Microsoft again and they tell him they will overnight him a box to send it back. It's now been almost 3 weeks and he still hasn't gotten a box or any shipping information. Everytime he calls, they pull up lame excuses or bounce him around the company. He finally decides to give an Xbox a try and this is what he gets. Awesome.

Edit: Yes, he told them what happened and they were more than happy to fix it. He was also nice on the phone.

Cliff's:
1. Bro got 360
2. Dog broke 360
3. Microsoft sends a refurb replacement that doesn't play games
4. Microsoft hasn't even sent a return box for that after 2.5 weeks

Yeah, the warranty doesn't cover crap like that, your bro should consider himself lucky, or accept what he gets for scamming MS for his problem and not theirs.

Weird. When my friend had to send in his original xbox they were very nice about it- his wasn't even under warranty anymore.

And from what i've heard they've been good about Xbox 360 returns too. Maybe your brother is a jerk on the phone? Or maybe it's just random bad luck.

Sucks that it's taking that long to get his second Xbox 360 that they weren't obligated to replace for him. :p

Your brother should grab the bull by the horns and call daily until the box comes.

I'm surprised they offered your brother anything. Abuse isn't covered by warranty.

(Of course, after agreeing to honor the warranty, they still screwed up.)

He didn't scam MS. He told them what happened and they said they would fix it.

He's very lucky. He should could his blessings and stop complaining about it, because MS has no real obligation to him.

He would be fine paying for a fix, but they said they would do it for free.

What? You're saying he told the MS CSR that his dog jumped off the couch and hit the DVD tray jamming it and they said "no prob"?

Nice, Sony or Nintendo wouldn't have done that.

Yeah, that's why he was fine with the 3 week wait initially. He wasn't even too miffed when he got back a refurb, but then it didn't work and they promised a box overnighted and now they are just bouncing him around :p

Considering that it was broke due to physical damage and not a manufacturer defect I'd just be happy that they are working with me on replacing it.

What in the world makes you think MS should give him anything other than refurb considering his negligence was the cause of the problem?

To be fair, I think MS should have done a bit more R&D on the 'dog jumping on top of DVD tray' scenario so maybe you have a point.
