My box springs broke and this warranty terms is just BS.

The border wire thing on my Simmons box springs decided to break about a month back. It's one of those with a ten year warranty. I bought it from Roomstore Furniture, but they went bankrupt quite some time ago, so I had to expedite the warranty claim directly with Simmons. First I called them up. They sent me a warraty inspector who inspected the matress and wrote up a warranty verification. I sent the invoice to Simmons office.

I just got my warranty claim approved and they're offering me a new one. Sounds good except I have to pay a considerable shipping fee and personally be responsible for the disposal of the broken one. I could hardly call this a "warranty" repair.

If I'm going to buy matress again, I will think twice about the stability of the business so I won't have to go through these tedious warranty claim.
Here's the letter:

Dear Mr. xxxxxx

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you with your Simmons product. After reviewing your warranty claim we will offer replacement of your box springs according to our limited warranty. We regret we are not able to pick up used products.

According to our records, your current box springs are a twin size Beautyrest Majesty. We will be replacing it with a Beautyrest Kimble (B41 00 1, cover 7079) which is an equivalent or upgraded model in our current product line. This offer is valid for 30 days from the date of this letter. Simmons can not guarantee that the fabric of the replacement piece will match that of the original purchase. Firmness of the replacement product may vary slightly because construction specifications do change over time. The replacement product will carry the unexpired portion of your original product's limited warranty. Please sign and return this letter with the following items.

- White law tag from box springs OR a 4" swatch of fabric from box. - Phone number for carrier to contact you - $ 55.00 for applicable shipping charges. We prefer a money order, cashiers check, Visa or Mastercard payment. However, we will accept a personal check.

Visa/Mastercard Number Expiration Date

Cardholders Name/Signature Date

Sorry to say, but that sounds right. Warranties rarely cover shipping costs or pick up of the old item.
As for finding a furniture that stays in business, good luck! 🙂

I thought they're supposed to take your failed products they're replacing under warranty.

That sounds like a fair deal to me.

Pay shipping and get a new mattress is a bargain.... 😀

Take the old one to GoodWill or Salvation Army or call them often times they will come pick it up for free!

The purpose of warranty is to provide the purchaser with a replacement or repair without financial pressure on them in case of a product failure.

This is not the matress. This is the spring box, which is what you put between the frame and matress so I think it is more difficult to find someone who will take a spring box.

Well I understand you think that is what warranty means.

Webster says
3 : a written guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the maker's responsibility for the repair or replacement of defective parts

Funny the RoomStore is still in business down here (TX).
Lesson learned.

I think they might still pick it up, just tell them you have a bed they can pickup.
Once they get there they won't go home empty handed. They will fix it and sell it.

Sounds fair to me... then again I live in Alaska which can only get UPS/Fedex 2day and Next day. No UPS Ground or FDX Express Savers. I have paid $40 for 2 CPUs and a stick of memory before...

Bend over and take it like a man.

just spent this weekend shopping for matresses and 350 is a mid range prize...they seem to go from 200 bucks til--well, the sky is the limit!!!
