well ipod is a "portable firewire drive" incase I need to move files around
ipaq is to keep track of meetings
broadband is because I occasionally have to log into work servers from home
all this stuff belongs to company, but it's mine to use so long as I work here

Why do you guys see this as being bad or him sucking up to his boss? I do the exact same thing for my employees. Oh sure, I don't buy them Ipods or pay their cable connection unless they REALLY need it or deserve it, but I do make sure that the ones who do a really good job are rewarded both verbally and through special treats. When I worked as the IT manager for the company, every so often I'd order lunch for the entire department, and now being Technology manager for the entire company, I am planning a big spring cookout for all the employees as a special treat for them for their great work this winter.
I think his boss is a fine person to be giving him these special gifts. If you do a good job or go above and beyond the requirements of your job, then I say you deserve some recognition for that work. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. So long as it's being done for the right reasons. If his boss is just buttering him up to make him the boss's private little servant/slave, then no, his boss is wrong. But if he's just rewarding a job well done, then I'm all for what he's doing, even if it does seem a bit overboard to me.![]()

Or, it's the bosses way of encouraging you to do more work from home in the evenings (e.g. - the broadband connection)Originally posted by: KokomoGST

It's prolly his way of saying he appreciates you and your work despite not being able to pay you more. Good on you for your work and good on him for being a standup boss.![]()
