anyway, as for your situation i'd go ahead and take over the job and worry about your boss later.. as i see it, your relationship is compromised either way at this point. and your boss's boss knows you are in the right. if oxy wants to believe you had any part of it then that is his problem. now that your boss's boss knows that as well, you should be alright IMO, but you will have to deal with having a bad relationship with oxy if he stays with the company. (but like i said, thats pretty much inevitable now anyway)

he needs to stop his mess, and if he doesn't want to go to rehab (prefers to do it at home) then let him because rehab only makes you dwell on your problem for no reason.

P.S. those little pink things he leaves under his tongue are suboxone pills.. they are pills so you do not feel the withdrawal from oxycotin. they are a miracle for him if he uses them correctly.

It sounds like the bolded worked for you which is AWESOME but I wouldn't recommend that across the board. I have never been addicted to drugs but imo moving away from family and friends who support you and want to help you succeed at kicking the habit might be a bad idea. To me it would easier to relapse if you are in a new town/state where you don't know anyone well enough for them to kick you in the ass when you need it.

I've taken hydrocodone and oxycontin and so forth before. I am really having a hard time understanding how being addicted to it means you just randomly leave work all the time and drive halfway across town? When I take it, I get really sleepy. I either stay home or go to work. I don't go off into some sort of weird disassociative fugue state halfway across the city.

Also, driving around while on the stuff, assuming he's actually high (or low, if you will) on it is most likely a crime.

drugs affect other people differently, from the way the OP states 'he is sweaty a lot at work' shows that he is going through some form of withdrawal and my guess is his connection is not steady and he is spending time trying to find a hookup.

Don't go to that meeting. It will only lead to trouble.

I agree with this 100%. This is someone elses problem and if you get dragged into it you go down too.

So, this'll put in you in charge of 70 people at the job site? In such a role, being in uncomfortable positions is just part of the job.

Admittedly, you are looking at this from your own experience which is ok but your assessment is ultimately flawed.

A person who is this addicted to drugs may not have family or friends who are supportive. Chances are family or friends got them hooked. The only circle of people they have in their area is in some way related to drugs and these people will pressure a person to return to drugs. In cases like this the only way get away from that circle is to move away.

Oxy's boss called me again, from what he said Oxy will not be back until Tuesday next week. He also said he was removing Oxy from the superintendents position and would like me to take over. Our insurance program does cover some sort of treatment program and they are not going to fire him but they do want to leave him on the site working for me now. I can already see problems with this.

I am debating in I should try and call Oxy over the weekend before Tuesday.

I don't know if I've seen such a string of difficult situations for a long time.

It sounds like they are putting you in the middle of his sh!t again by essentially demoting him and putting you in charge, and thus with authority over and responsibility for his performance.

idk they obviously dont want to fire him since they are friends and I am guessing he is in rehab right now. They thought it would be a lot easier to make you his boss and now they dont really have to deal with any more issues that come up. In all fairness you are a manager and these are the types of things you have to manage. Although it would be very difficult for me to manage my boss and take his job, imo I would much rather just have him fired.
