After just joining the gym, I'm sore! A few years ago I bought an elliptical runner from my doc and after doing just 5 minutes, it sent me into a fibromyalgia flare-up for about a month. Now that I've lost weight, I'm feeling better and I'm handling the workout okay so far. I'm starting out very slowly. Just about 15 minutes of cardio and very light weights and some stretching and exercise for my abs. I don't want to work myself into a flare-up! Plus there's another upside. There's always a fine-looking young man there willing to help me with any questions I may have. Usually very friendly too! :D

EDIT:

Do you all have any workout music recommendations?

Keep at it. The first few days you'll feel sour, but you'll start to feel much better after that initial soreness.

If you have breasts, usually if there are friendly fine looking men around, they want to bonk you. If they're not friendly or fine looking odds are they also want to bonk you.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that not just the first few visits, but the first few weeks would keep me a little sore. I'm pretty out of shape. How long, do you think, before I start to see some kind of results. My main goal is to keep my heart rate up for cardio and just tone up what I have.

If you keep up with a good balance diet. Result should shows in 2-3 months. I just hit the gym for the last 2 days after not going for 4-5 months. I felt your pain.

Somehow, that sore actually felt kind of good...its like your body acknowledge you actually work out!

I shoveled snow, moved around a heavy laser printer, a 70lb monitor, and two desks. My body knows exactly what I did to it, and it'll work up a suitable punishment, most likely a back spasm, during the night. Right now it's biding its time, laughing quietly.

Good for you! I wouldn't worry too much about how quickly you see the results of working out. A lot of people get discouraged if they're not seeing the results they want as quickly as they'd like and end up quitting. Don't think of it as something you're doing to get to a certain point. Think of it as a permanet lifestyle change and the results will just come along with it. Just try to exercise regularly adding a little over time, that and a sensible diet will get you positive results. For some people it helps to keep a journal of their workout routine so that they can see their progress. Good luck!

LOL!! (Not at your pain, though!) Mine groans every time I get up or down from sitting. I'll tell ya, having the whole sitting down to pee is NOT an advantage women have over men!

montanafan - I don't really have a certain point I would like to reach except to be toned. I want to be "Toit, like a toigah".

I need to talk to one of the physical trainers there or something to establish a real regimen. I really have no idea what I'm doing right now.

lol, I used to listen to the Rocky IV soundtrack when working out as well. "Burning Heart", "Hearts on Fire" and "No Easy Way Out." Those were the best.
