Bikes can cost up to $10,000 +

gee whiz.. all I wanna do is ride a fricken bike around some parks and around my neighborhood not ride in the Tour de France. 10K... wow...

:Q

No, no its not. If you aren't going to be riding 200 miles a week its not worth it to a casual rider to drop 2k on a bike as oppsed to 900. A $900 preformance aluminum will suit the casual rider fine. Just be a smart buyer, buy a bike with good components worry about the rims/pedals/brakes later, make sure you have decent shifters. In the $900 range I recomend ultegras or 105s.

Honestly, if you just want an "excersisce bike" for casual riding there is no need to drop 2k on a real nice frame and super light rims. Save that when you want to get serious about it.

Trust me there worth it. Even if you don't race. Spring the extra cash somehow.

Very nice. You like the Specialized bikes and the Mavic wheelsets, huh?

How much did that stand set you back? It looks strong and stable. I have a POS 2-bike "gravity" rack, but it cost me $45 shipped, so I'm not really complaining.

Like BR said ... it's the Ultimate Velo Cache, listed at $169.99 ... I've had it for about a year, I think I used a 20% off coupon ... it's very sturdy, I'm happy with the purchase!
