My Bikes ...

jumper, I really am, it's sad ... LOL ... they have a hard time fitting me on bikes because of my proportions ...

How do you protect them from thief when ridding them outside? How much did each cost?

LOL ... theif would have to catch me! I don't ever ride them anywhere that I would leave them. I usually ride from my house, but sometimes drive out ... I have a lock on my truck ... I won't leave them in the back of my truck unless I'm driving it! I mean, I won't go into a grocery store for 5 mins on the way home, nothing out of eye-sight.

I think retail on the road is $2400 (2005) and mountain $1975 (2004) for the complete bike.

But that's nothing after helmets, shoes, pedals, wheels, and other stuff that I use or had to get when it broke or needed replacing.

I think I've dropped somewhere between 10 and 15k on bike stuff in the past 2 years ...

You would be very angry if it all got stolen. I know I would. Its possible even if you watch them and never lock them up somewhere. Someone could take your bikes and stuff at gunpoint 🙁 I know its slim but still.

Man..2 threads about bikes. I wanted to get a bike now that weather is warming up here in NYC for some good exercise and casual riding. I havent had a bike in over 10 years and I'm thinking that I probably wont spend more than 300 or so for one...now I'm reading here about bikes that cost upwards of 3K. Guess I have some serious saving up to do if I want something decent.

Nice bikes by the way.

Bikes can cost up to $10,000 +

Look at this bike. http://www.easyracers.com/ti_rush.htm Well its not really a bike. Its a recumbent. Its $5000 +

Though a very nice recumbent it is! Though a lot of the stuff is extra like the fairing.

Trust me there worth it. Even if you don't race. Spring the extra cash somehow.

When I was in law school, I had a $500 car and about $8K in bikes. It's only gotten (slightly) worse since then:

Zoomy road bike

Gentlemanly road bike

Beastly mountain bike

I think my next bikes will be a nice single-speed (Rivendell Quickbeam or comparable) and a FS MTB (probably a Stumpy 120).

What happens when one of them or all of them get stolen?

I file an insurance claim and go shopping! I have full replacement coverage from USAA.

Why would they be likely to be stolen anyway? I don't leave them unattended outdoors. I've had >$1,000 bikes for the last 15 years or so, and never had one stolen.

any entry level bike (ie 500$ for road) is more than decent... and a 1000$ bike will keep you happy for a LONG time. dont let anybody else tell you otherwise 🙂

Yeah, and shouldn't that bad boy be 18" off the floor? I'm calling the building inspector.

Oh yeah, nice bikes, though I'm not a big fan of Specialized MTB, I'm a much bigger fan of Fisher, Rocky Mountain, and Marin designs/geometry. Specialized road bikes are tough to beat for the price, though.
