My bike got stolen :(

Note: you can claim this on your homeowner's insurance if you have it!!🙂

Sorry about your bike..I've had a couple ripped off over the years but ended up with an upgrade in each instance thanks to insurance.

My superV 2000(98 model) is in the shop having the Fatty SL headshock rebuilt at the moment and I'm jonesin' to get it back. I can just imagine how bad I feel if someone jacked it! Where was it at when it was stolen? BTW, they have low-jack for bikes now.

AGGGHHH I've haven't even had this beauty more than a month 🙁 ugh...

My bro has home owners insurance but he is hesitant because of how it would affect his rates... The stupid punks went into our garage and targeted my bike! We had 4 golf bags full of clubs, but they ignored those! I've only taken my bike out 3 times since I've had it!!!! God I hate thieves! GOD DAMN FVCK :|

sorry, but this is probably the nicest thing I've ever owned... I spent months looking into it... god I am so pissed off 🙁

Dude, I feel your pain... I had a Concorde Team Comp stolen.. full DeoreXT/XTR - RaceFace crankset, Mag21 fork.. (it was a few years ago)

i was SOOO pissed off.. i dwelled on it for weeks.. even though the insurance paid for my 98 Gary Fisher Supercaliber (amazing bike)

It'll be all good in the end 🙂

It was somebody you know dude! Trust me, if they went in your garage after it then and that's all they took then they knew it was there and you probably showed it to them before. Stats suggest that most home theft is done by someone who's been in the house before. Have you had a pest control, delivery, cable installer or anyone else in the last month? It's probably hopeless but I still try doing some sleuth work.

The only people that know about it are the neighborhood kids, and a person I showed it to last night (my brother had a BBQ). I HIGHLY doubt the person I showed it to took it because we bike together all the time and he already has a nice TREK.

My brother says the garage door was closed (dunno, sometimes he can be scatter brained), so they must have gone through the back door of the garage. There are no lights in the garage so they must have know exactly where it was because they would have had to go through the garage in the dark and the bike was on the opposite side!

I just found out my other brother's fiances bike was stolen too 🙁, It's a Dunlop something or other (~$200), but they left a really nice FUJI! They probably that that it was worth more because it had FS while the FUJI did not.

STUPID PUNKS 🙁

what a dumb ass... you get insurance so you can make claims... not because you're worry about the rate will go up... ask him when would he use it? when the house burn down with him in it?
you should live in my area... people don't lock their doors here. but of course... when i return to virginia, that's a different story.

Pepsei - My brother is piss poor when it comes to money management 🙁. He is up to his ying yang in debt (his own fault) and I don't want to make it worse for him... I on the other hand have no debts, no VISA balance... I got the bike at a huge discount (~40%), would the insurance value be the full price ($1375) or the amount I paid ($800)? We do lock the doors here, but not the backyard access door to the garage... I guess it's 95% my fault for not locking it though... I just hating living in paranoia!!!

yakko - That sucks!!! I feel for you because you were more attached than I! I've only had mine for a month and have had only about 15 hours of riding time on it.

About the home owner's insurance; I carry a 500$ deductable and I have friends who carry even higher deductables because over the course of time the difference in premiums is far more$$$ than having to shell out 500+$ if you ever make a claim. So his brother's deductable may end up being as much or more than the bikes worth 🙁 Hey Yakko Since your in Tampa where do you, or did you, ride?

<< Yield - Did you have seperate bike insurance or did you get your house insurance to cover it? >>

My parents' house insurance covered it 🙂

Dude,
My condolences, I feel your pain.

I have a 1997 mango Cannondale F1000 (1997's Mountain Bike Magazine "Mountain Bike of the Year"), but your 2000 blue F500 looks better.

goddamnit I hate thieves. My bike was stolen last year (it was LOCKED UP) and I was so pissed, I literally wanted to find the bitchass punk motherfvckers who took it and shoot them all. How the fvck we can tolerate people like this in our society, people who have no respect for others' property.... GOD DAMN.

I now have a new Trek 4300 and you bet your ass I keep it LOCKED THE HELL UP ALL OF THE TIME. I probably wouldn't lock it in my garage if I had a garage though. (i.e. I'm not trying to blame you for not locking it up. I probably would have done the same thing. I'm just saying that after having one bike stolen, I'm ultra-ultra-paranoid with my new one.)

I don't want to live in paranoia 🙁. My dad has had the Mercedes sysmbol ripped off his car 5 times in the last 10 years or so 🙁. He just replaces it, and doesn't fret about it because if he did he would go crazy!

That sucks. My cousin has had 3 bikes ripped off in the past few years, but I wouldn't say he's vigilant about locking them up.

I just got a hybrid Trek 7300 with no suspension. It?s a $500 bike (I paid $240, depreciation is so wonderful), pretty nice, but I hope that it won't be too much of a target compared to a ?real? mountain bike. I?ve already started upgrading parts however (got aluminum handlebars and STX-RC ?rapidfire? shifters, now the front derailleur has got to go), and it would suck if it got stripped. An ?experienced? person carrying a chain tool and an allen wrench could make very quick work of it.

For the record: the insurance will cover the replacement value of the bike. So you'd be getting whatever money it would take to walk into a bike shop and buy the same/equivalent bike with no discount.

DAPUNISHER,

I mainly rode at Morris Bridge Park. When I was riding all the time I had a 25 mile loop out there. It took about 3.5 hours to complete.

I'm not to familiar with that area is it flat or is there a little up and down? Also did you ever go to Santos or Ocala to ride?
